Also installed the gas tank and re-covered front seats:

...and installed some old Con Fer shackles I had laying around:

Now I just need to find two more old Con Fer shackles! lol It's got some stinkbug rake after the shackle lift.
I also finally got the title situation worked out and the Cruiser is all mine! It should have been a quick transfer, but instead has been a year-long re-titling process. It's the little things that take the longest.

Beware! The following may be too much for purists! You've been warned! :p

My wife HATES the stock 40 jump seats for our kids (10,4, and 2 in age) so I had to find a viable, cheap alternative. Off to craigslist I went and found a Suzuki Samari rear seat. The cool thing with this seat is that it: fits between the wheel wells keeping it out of my rear-view mirror, folds flat, and tumbles forward, semi out of the way.
All I had to do was drill a few holes, cut some 1/4" backing plates, and fab up a latch/ inner seatbelt anchor.
Anyways, here's pics! Next up is a disc brake swap. Look here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-seri...ke-swap-w-dual-circut-master-help-needed.html

As much as I love the jump seats....the folding rear seat is the best-safe alternative. I might have to do one (not happy). But the wife supports the fj49 habit, but wants our son safe too. So I might have to sacrifice jump seats (sigh).
I love your progress and that you are making this practical as a real driver for your situation.

Let me know if you get rid of the jump seats...been looking for a set lol. :D

Thanks, and I completely understand being hesitant to pull the jump seats in favor of a "safer" alternative. One of the reasons I fell in love with the 40 series is the jump seats. Oh the things we do for our kids. lol

I think the shipping would be a little over the top coming from Alaska. lol

Lol! It's funny how these projects drag on huh? I have so many cool ideas for this thing but I'm getting mired in just getting it road worthy.

Got more done this week! Took the knuckles apart on the FJ60 donor axle as well as on the forty. Swapped the inner axles and clearanced the axle housing so the bigger sixty birfs would fit. Also installed a one piece oil pan gasket since the four piece gasket I got from NAPA leaked and didn't fit correctly. Those OEM gaskets are wayyyyy easier to install! I also installed all new suspension poly bushings and rear shackles. Pulled the old tie rods and installed new.
I'm currently getting ready to rebuild the new knuckles and run brake lines to the new mini truck booster and master. However, hunting season is nearly upon us and I'll be partaking in the fun for the next month, so work on the Cruiserwill slow down for a bit.

You have been hunting for the last 5 months......

Back from the dead! Just dropped the 40 off at the muffler shop for a new exhaust! I ended up purchasing a used Weber 32/36 from another Mud member due to the OEM carb being hacked and modified beyond a rebuild. I couldn't find another decent OEM carb so I had to go to the Weber. I still have a ton of loose ends to tie up, but this thing may be driving on a highway for the first time in 30 years soon! Excited to say the least!
