why are you guys still trying to install Techstream to your physical computer?
The original post has a link to a virtual machine that has Techstream on it already. Think of it as remotely logging onto a far away computer with techstream via your own computer. Doesn't matter if you have a PC, a Mac, a Linux etc.
here are the steps:
1) buy a cable that works with our year Toyota or Lexus. Looks like there are a lot of options posted recently. I got one for $30 that works with my LX. If your cable comes with a Techstream CD, throw it away or use it as a frisbee or something.
2) Download the software that allows you to log into a virtual machine. Link to get it is in the first post.
3) Install said software to your physical computer.
4) Download the Techstream "image" - basically the file that will let you log into the virtual computer that already has techstream installed
From there you will see a windows machine and desktop boot up within your existing computer. Computer within a computer. Click the desktop icon for Techstream and Bob's your uncle.
It literally takes 5 minutes.
@silver02accord where is the setting for the lock beep?/ i'm really used to hearing mine, want to set it to on thxWow got this set up super easy thank you. So happy to unlock all doors with 1 click & to quiet down the beep when it locks/unlocks.
Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.
Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II interface. One option:
- Amazon product ASIN B06XGB714M ($20, Prime)
Step 2: Download VirtualBox for Your Operating System:
- Windows: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-Win.exe
- MacOS: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-OSX.dmg
Step 3: Install VirtualBox Software You Just Downloaded
- Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
- MacOS: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer
Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- MEGA (V2! Click to download)
Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.
Connect & Enjoy.

Edit (4/8/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.

i followed step 2,3 and 4 is failing.
shoot i don't recall, it was my first time so i went through all the options to see everything. i think it was under "doors" but if i hook it up again soon ill reply back@silver02accord where is the setting for the lock beep?/ i'm really used to hearing mine, want to set it to on thx
Yes I upgraded the virtual box to 6.x. it was asking winhvplatform.dll. I added that to system32. Now it says "Not in a hypervisor partition" and fails to load. trying to find about the hypervisor.Did you try upgrading Virtual box to a newer version?
IIRC, TS and the associated files that come with the installation have files that specifically install the drivers for the USB cord.
Can you connect to your wifi OBD2 scanner manually, successfully, while in the VM session?
If the OS on your VM session can't see the OBD wifi adapter, then no software running in the VM session knows it exists either.
