Not computer savy and trying my hardest. I stuck at the new key area. I put in the code and nothing happens. Just comes back to the type new key input. I looked at YouTube vids and searched the hell out of this site. What am I missing? Wits end with it. Dell computer with windows 10

What the hell do that even mean lol. Was I sold something wrong? If so I didn't leave feedback yet

Take a look at the thread Leandro posted—it's really good.

I did replace the MainMenu.exe file (and renamed the original to MainMenu_OLD.exe) I am still getting this screen when I click on "Launch TIS". What do I choose for User Type @getco ? the "Proceed" button is still grayed out.

Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.

Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II interface. One option:
- https://amazon.com/Fangfei-Mini-Diagnostic-Scanner-Toyota/dp/B06XGB714M ($20, Prime)

Step 2: Download VirtualBox for Your Operating System:
- Windows: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-Win.exe
- MacOS: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-OSX.dmg

Step 3: Install VirtualBox Software You Just Downloaded
- Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
- MacOS: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer

Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- MEGA (V2! Click to download)

Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.

Connect & Enjoy.

Edit (4/8/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.

To the OP: Thanks!

I followed your instructions and it all worked without a hitch on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra. Literally 5 minutes! Awesome!

You must be very good with your computer, because my virtually identical one could not open the Techstream copy from that source. I tried downloading it several times and it never did open.
Congrats,
Dave

Make sure you complete steps 2 and 3 first...that step 4 is more than just a Techstream image, it's an XP virtual box with Techstream installed.

Regards,
Dan

Thanks very much Dan. I am re-downloading both the Virtual Box and techstream files. I ordered the OBDII adapter and it doesn't have any drivers for Mac. What did you use?
Thanks again,
Dave

I tried to open the newly downloaded MEGA file in my newly downloaded Virtual Box Application; It fails to open with the following error message:

Failed to import appliance /Users/dave/Downloads/TechStream 12.20.024-v2.ova.

OVA '/Users/dave/Downloads/TechStream 12.20.024-v2.ova' does not contain an .ovf-file.

Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: ApplianceWrap
Interface: IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

Any ideas?
Thanks, I am a 50% idiot with computers, maybe more,
Dave

I have a question...are there any default values that can be changed on a 1999 LC? I'd love to have the ability to unlock all doors on one press, but it sounds as though this may be later trucks only.

If not, is the only value add over ODBII and a phone app the ability to program key transponders?

Want to know before I get yet another cable dongle for a very crowded toolbox.

@chrismenke : I can't answer your specific question about the other uses for Techstream, but on my '06 I don't think I can program the door unlock for all doors at once.

I think the biggest value add for Techstream is diagnosis of AHC issues (and others) but that isn't relevant for your '99. Being that I don't know what OBDII set-up you have, I can't be 100% sure, but I know that's why I downloaded Techstream and have been very happy to have it set up.

Since you don't have AHC in your '99, I suppose it might not make much sense, but I'm sure someone with a similar year truck to yours might chime in with what they were able to change via Techstream.

I can’t help with what can/can’t be customized in a 99 LC but it might be worth looking in your FSM under “customizable features”, for me it’s in Book 1, right at the very end starting at DI-1599 with a convenient Customer Checklist.

quick question. do I have to start engine to use TechStream?

An update on my first time experience with the TechStream and the Mini VIC USB Adapter.

1. The TechStream SW
It's a great idea for OP to create the VM which reduced lots of headache of installation and configuration, also more secured so you don't have to worry about virus or other bad thing usually associated with downloaded sw. Thank you @getco

After installed the Oracle VirtualBox and double clicked the downloaded .ova file, the VirtualBox will ask for a location to create the virtual disk for the virtual machine. Place it on somewhere you have enough space. The created .vmdk file for me is about 2.7GB. Also, I disabled the network interface of the VM, so the TechStream has no way to try to communicate with Internet.

2. The Mini VIC USB Adapter
I bought the one $16.89 on eBay, and tried tonight. To my limited experience with TechStream, I believe it works. At least I could read the AHC system pressure at different settings, and customize several settings on my 04 LX

I'm still learning how to use the TechStream. Anyone can point me to a quick tutorial?

Forgot to mention that I think the key has to be in "On" position for the TechStream to communicate with all ECUs. You don't have to start the engine. Correct me if I'm wrong.
