How many daily drivers out there?

I got mine to replace a Honda Accord that got totaled. I thought a lot about it and wanted to get one vehicle to do everything that I like to do include be my drive everywhere, everyday, vehicle. So needed to haul kids and friends, tow the boat, load gear for family camping. Long drives to hunt and fish, take the dogs and have a separate space for them to be wet and muddy, or sometimes 2-3 of those things combined. The Oregon Coast gets some bad weather, so wanted 4x4 to get around when conditions were ugly, or just want to get up some muddy logging roads for a weekend drive in the rain. Wanted to sleep inside on occasion for hunting trips, and just because I like it. I decided there was no perfect vehicle, so I gave up on mileage, paid more than a 18 year old vehicle with over 200k miles should cost, and went with what my heart wanted - a Land Cruiser. I have a 87 Toyota pickup (2wd) so have a basic idea of how bulletproof Toyota's can be. Couldn't be happier, first vehicle I've ever really been excited to own. I've driven about 6,000 miles since September when I bought it, about 5 months. Several 2-4 hour drives, each way, no issues whatsoever. It has no mods, completely stock.

Yes for sure! Thing is when i start worrying about mpg i know im officially old ha

Not true:D I preferred the thirsty v8 petrol Hundy to the much more popular v8 diesel 200's over here, despite the fuel cost advantage of the newer model simply because at 72 I no more care about anything else than the pleasures of life:bounce2: All the offload rigs I've owned in the past have been cheaper on fuel but much noisier and overall costlier to maintain diesel rigs. As I grew older i realised how futile is to worry about mpg when I am enjoying such a FABULOUSLY LUXURIOUS ride in my daily driven '06 petrol v8 Hundy:p

I bought my 100 about 4 months ago after putting ~200k on various late model American pickup trucks (mostly Chevys, but put 25k on a Dodge and about 20k on an F-150) in the previous 2 years, and my 12 yo 100 drives better and is substantially more capable. I have the 06 with vvt, so I have a bit better power than the earlier 100s, and obviously its a bit slower accelerating than any of the pickups except the dodge that was an NA v6, but the 100 never fails to get up to speed when passing or merging. Its smooth. Even on AT tires, the ride is quieter than any of the pickups. Its just better in almost every way. I've put on about 12k in 4 months, so definitely my DD. Highly recommend. Get your convincing hat on and convince your wife. You'll both be happy you did.

Barely worth mentioning but fuel mileage is very similar to the V8 pickups, i.e. not great, but nobody buys a 6000 lb V8 powered vehicle expecting good gas mileage. Although I always love filling up in the mountains and then watching the LC get 17-18 mpg by the time I get back to Denver!!!!

I’ve owned 2 DD LC’s for the last 17 years (80 series for 15 years, 100 series for 2 years). Never broken down, never been stuck, never had to tell anyone I don’t have room for them or their gear and never had to turn back off-road. Downsides are fuel economy for the inexperienced and the repair costs, although infrequent, can be high if your not a wrench turner (I’m not).

My wife, who has always hated and feared driving in the snow, doesn’t hesitate to jump in my rigs when the snow gets deep. We’ll never be without an LC in our garage.

I DD mine, 60 miles round trip, mostly traffic, 12mpg. I choose to drive this over a camry and a Benz that we have, maybe in the spring when i get an SL55 AMG, then i'll DD that.

We’ve had an 06 LS430 since new. Before the 06 we have also owned an LS 400 and another LS430 both bought new. Never had any mechanical or electrical trouble with any of them. The 06 has had some interior cosmetic issues that the other 2 didn’t have but it has been a rock solid vehicle that currently has just over 177k miles. The only real issue we’ve had with any of them was the plastic gears in the 06’s Mark Levinson in dash CD changer went out around the 140k mile mark. Had the unit taken out and sent off which meant for about a week the vehicle had no stereo or climate control as it is all tied into the Nav. Luckily this happened in late Fall so it was still drivable. With no sound from the stereo or climate control system the car was still whisper quiet - no rattles, squeaks or other noises in a 145k mile vehicle.
Plan on buying the LS 500 in a couple of months even though I don’t like the idea of a twin turbo charged V6 instead of a V8. Also hate the grill and some other things but when it comes down to it there isn’t anything like an LS. I just hope the new LS lives up to the quality and durability of its predecessors.
Will be keeping the LS430 as it has been too good a car to sell for what they bring.

2001LC 274K, with 33’s.
I bought it last year with 248K. I drive from construction site to construction site as my DD. I bought it for durability and peace of mind. It owes me another 100K before I buy the next series. Being on the road from before sun up to after sun down I want a large vehicle between me and them, the ones on there phones tailgating each other...

I daily drive my LX470, 24.2 miles each way. Lifted, with 285/75R18 getting around 14mpg, and with about 205k miles. My wife just bought a 18 JLU Wrangler, but we're thinking about adding an LS460 to the mix, and taking turns driving it to keep the miles off the SUVs. I love my LX, but I rack up miles too quick on it.

I DD my '03. 3 days a week I commute into Boston (~50 miles round trip) sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. The other 2 days I work from home, but still am constantly driving my 3 kids to various activites. My LC currently has 145K miles and last Summer I drove across the country with my 12 yr old daughter for HIH7 in Silverton, CO. I never thought I would ever do a trip like that, but it was unbelievable. 5K miles round trip and the Hundy never skipped a beat on or off the pavement.

We're big Honda people too. Several years ago when my wife's '01 Ody crossed 200k miles, I tried to get her to replace it with an '07 LC. We went to test drive it and to my dismay she didn't like it at all. She much preferred her old minivan. So rather than try to convince her, we bought her a 2011 Ody EX-L and I went on the hunt for an LC for myself. When I found my '03, I sold my '07 Accord and my wife couldn't care less. She had her Ody and I had my LC and we were both happy.

Being in Philly, you probably think you'll never have the chance to off road an LC. But, simply sign up for HIH8 or HIH9 and make the epic trek to CO. You won't believe how comfortable the 100 is on the hwy and how capable it is on the trails in the San Juans! Bring your wife and kids and you'll make memories that will last a lifetime.

I daily The Black Knight about 25 miles per. Before that, my daily was a '97 80 series in the winter and a '94 Audi UrS4 in the summer. TBK replaces the other vehicles. Although I'll miss the modded Audi for spirited driving in the summer, I love the 100 series and am happy to have it as a daily. My 80 has been easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. I'm looking forward to the 100 being the same.

My wife dd the 2006 Cruiser (actually a LX470) and loves it.

Not many miles but that is her preference over the 200 or 80 that I drive.

I drive my LX to work about 60 miles a day at 11mpg. I have a built gx470 too but prefer the LX
Today I almost bought a new car to be my daily driver to save gas and putting more miles on my LX. I did the math and with ins and monthly payments , there will be no savings at all. I was just getting the itch of a driving a new car

I buy them for my family for a reason.... to drive. And I don’t buy anything else... for a reason.

I own 2. put 35k combined miles on em last year. My daily is a 2001 LC, and it has been one of my all time favorite DD.

Did not buy it to daily it but I do. Got it with 220,000 miles in July and sitting at 239k this morning. In the same time my 5 series has put on only 3k!

^^^^^^ My perspective as well. 'SMILES per gallon, not miles per gallon'.
