I made a post a week or so ago, I asked which center console I should buy. I got a lot of responses recommending the Tuffy console.

So I bought the 6" (smallest) Tuffy console for sale. Upon installation, I really had to smash it between the seats and it did not feel good. I attached a picture so you can see what I mean. It doesn't look that bad, but it's not even pushed all the way in.

If you have a Tuffy console, how did you install it? Did it fit fine for you?

Thanks for any input!

I fit mine in between the seats. But my seats are out of a es350 and the seat brackets are custom made.

It’s a snug fit but it will be fine - it definitely touches the chairs. I have the one with the stereo slot which is 8” wide at the front (remaining is 6.5”).

Wow. An 8.5-inch wouldn't physically go between my seats. I think it's because my 73 seats are different.

Shouldn’t your 73 have had a bench seat? Or do you have a late 73?

Mine fit easily between the stock seats of my 1980:

Mine fit perfectly in my 1981.

My question is: what did you do with your shifter cane, leave it as is or bend it?

My 8” Tuffy fit between stock ‘74 seats. The cushions touch at the front... but a 6” would be clear. I think i had to replace the acorn nuts with standard ones on the bolts at the hinges for the seat backs.

Are your seats original or did someone retrofit them?

Mine fit with the previously custom bent stick. A large cup will just touch in the left cupholder

Mine required no bending, but I can't have a very tall drink in the passenger-side cup holder because the cane would hit it in 4th gear.

Edited to add: But I didn't use the provided mounting holes; I drilled new ones to use the captured nuts in the tub for the stock plastic center console. So I probably moved my Tuffy back an inch or two so the shifter cane wouldn't hit it. Don't really remember.
