are we requiring waivers this year

don't laugh, we have some around here somewhere. they came to be several years ago, but never were really used.

:flipoff2:

Speaking of waivers, I gotta get myself some tire chains.

Should I go for a set of 4 or stick with 2 for front or rear application?

I really saw the benefit of having those around during last year's extraction.

I only bought a set for the rear and I have mixed feelings for the front. The front is doing a lot of work - turning, stopping and powering. If the chain ever comes loose, there'll be hell to pay so I just avoid chaining up the front tires all together. Besides, tire chains ain't cheap when you go to 35"

This year I think I'll use my AT tires to see how they do in the deep stuff as an experiment.

On Sautrday I got into some deep sand and my tires were useless. I just sunk. Snow runs should be very interesting this season. :frown:

No yankin. It was a steep sandy climb, kinda like the entrance to Puerco. I started to bury myself, so I just backed down the hill.

Maybe I should check to see that my chains will fit my new tires :hmm:

This group is getting better and more prepared for snow each year. First it was Larry that ran chains, now Ash, Ron, Steve, and I have chains and others are talking about them. I must admit, the chains Steve loaned me last year for the recovery effort made a night and day difference. I now have my own set and there is no going back.

What surprised me was that on my first snow run with the club, no one wanted to install the tire chains that they were carrying! :eek:The chains that I bought for that run, turned out to be the wrong size in the right box  and this made for trying times to say the least. Running w/o chains on a snow run is illogical to me :hmm: Digging yourself out every 20' is an exercise in futility. Glad to see more and more of us are using these handy devices.

For those of you who are buying a set of chains, please practice putting them on your tires in the driveway before heading out. :D Here's a trick that's helpful: install the chain on a tire to make sure you got everything right. Then remove the chain and lay it flat on the floor on top of newspapers. Make sure that the chains are laying perfectly with no twists or anything. Then use a bright color spray paint to paint everything that's facing top. :D The painted part of the chain is what will be touching your tire and won't rub off easily. The bright paint helps to identify twisted links in deep snow/mud or when it's dark.

Onur,
I bought my tire chains from a logging store in Oregon and brought them home in my luggage so I'm not much help there. I'd go for a basic, old fashioned chains for the rear with cam locks. Now, for the front, I'd get a more high tech set of chains that helps with steering and side hilling, in case you want to go this route.

Great! time to spend more money. You guys are killing me. Good thing I am not married, otherwise I would have a lot of explaining to do. Looked at Jon's link, but what works well for a decent price of all the choices?

As far as chainsaws go, let me know what you guys have (blade length) and I can get the extra chains, just in case (it never hurt's). We have mostly Sthil (not that the brand matters on chain lenght) but a couple different sizes.
