I'm going to have to take them out, and do the spray painting Jon mentioned.

I wish I could take credit for that idea. But, alas, it was Ash who suggested it.

it might be better if we left him at home. do you guys really want to spend a night in snow trying to extract somebody?

I agree with Rory on this one (maybe we can invite him on a easier run). I haven't done this one but from the pics, it looks like there has been some problems. But....

They would just need to have the limitations of their vehicle explained to them and be prepared to spend the night inside it. Other than that, they deserve a spanking Toyota style.

I also agree with Jon. I don't know the guy, so I can't say what he can do. I am only going by what is told to me by a third party. Jon, maybe you know him, cuz my coworker said it was one of the head guys for landscaping at UNM (not Brian? at the Think Trees), but a Don or Dan? I asked if he was a balding guy, and he said yes and he has been there for a long time. He offered me a job there like 13 years ago, so I think it is the same guy.

It is an easy run...really it is.

The pics from last year's run were the culmination of what seemed to be some mistakes and mainly miscommunication.

I think we all learned the results of those types of issues and I doubt you will see that again.

It should be a fun run.

We've done it many times and haven't had any problems before. It was just a couple of freak occurrences.

It was always a fun, easy - moderate run. It will just depend on if the FS has addressed those erosion problems. Hopefully not... :flipoff2:

I am going to make this run for sure. I was in the snow a couple of weeks ago it was a blast(it was only 2 inches at most). But it reminded me that technique is just as important as equipment, especially when driving a 6000lb truck. My experience with chains on the 80 in deep hard snow is the 80 will dig till it high centers or gets traction.

Thanks,
Vince

Chains wouldn't go on the front of the 100 if I recall - some interference problem?

Last year, I bought the chains the week before, and had no intention of actually using them, but figured they may come in handy if necessary. We didn't put the chains on, until it was already dark, and had spent at least 2-3 hrs trying to get Rory's truck either running, or out of the way.

I imagine it will be the same this year, except a lot more vehicles will have them in case of emergency.

I'm going to have to take them out, and do the spray painting Jon mentioned. Last year, it took quite a while to get them on in the dark, thanks to Rory's persistence.

Correct.. the chains didn't fit because of the IFS. Rory bought the pair I had purchased for the front.

After driving it around with just the rear ones on, I think I will be fine without front one.

Well if my coworker sees him and passes on the info on how to get ahold of me, I will invite him. This should be fun to see what he actually finds out about his LR compared to the Cruisers.

my tires and rims are in! i'll be picking them up on the way home tomorrow.:bounce::clap:
i'll order my gears while i'm there.:D

I just found out today our annual holiday party is going to be scheduled on this weekend :crybaby: I may be able to weasle my way out of it, but I do all the orginizing for the year end awards we give our employees. Who knows what they will screw up if I don't do it (They mess up the daily login if I miss one day). Kinda hate to miss one of the few days out of the year where I can mingle with employees as a "friend", instead of as there boss. I guess I will have to see how things work out.

BTW, Congrats with the new tires and rims Shawn!

you know you'll regret it if you miss this run.:p

i'll start a new thread when i get pics of the tires.;)

Go ahead and rub it in Shawn :flipoff2:

I'll have to see how things go. Need to make sure everything is set up and make a good excuse not to be there.

Got my chains today....man, they are heavy at about 45pounds.

Tires next week and I am ready to do some snow wheeling! Can't wait!

Hey now, chains work well in mud too....

Lame. I'm currently scheduled to work the 11th-13th (would be home the night of the 13th).

But I'm up for a recovery on the 14th if you need. I can bring the Power Wagon (yes, we have chains for all 4, and a plow!). I'm going to try to drop this trip (like I do every trip on my schedule), but we'll see. Not only is this trip cramping my ability to do the tree run, but I've got a big mess of a 40 at home that I need to fix!

Dan

I'll be on the counter on the 13th.

I guess I converted for nothing.

Bummer.......
