After spending some time making the new to me driveshafts shine again, i got them greased and mounted.

Not done with the shop yet, but feels good to have a nice surface to work on.

Not very exiting, i know, but its nice to get rid of another vibration, and have a sorta good spare set of driveshafts.
Took it for a spin, feels good! And on such a nice day i had to stop and take the scenery in.

Got the signs mounted as soon as the door was in!
The lower one is a relic from the old shop that went down in the fire. Feels good to have it up again!

Had to do a few fixes to get the car approved again, and left rear bumper end cap was missing...
Out came the axe, and the heartwood of some dry pine. Wil not rust and will not rot. actually a better design than oem!

Also fixed the missing ground to the rear hatch, so now the rear licence plate light is working again. Also needed for the inspection.

I dug into the all doors to lube and oil them up, as there was something acting up everywhere.
Left rear passenger could not be opened from the inside, and the hook turned out to be broken on the lock assembly, so i need a new lock assebly, or what its called.
Anyone has a spare?

While in the doors, i mounted the lock solenoid for the passenger door, and it works from the switch panel!
Great, i love not having to climb over to unlock the other side. wohoo!

The lower bearing on the electric window lift mechanism was gone, so i had to steal one from a donor.
This made the window slop forward when lowering, and sorta wedged in.

Old on the left, good from donor on the right:

Filed down the "cross rivet" on the sides and chiseled it onto the electric scissor mechanism.

Lubed, mounted and tested ok! Feels good to finally get around to theese things.

Had a spare set of lock sylinders, swapped them in so i now have similar door keys for front and rear doors.

Removed the worn and purple-ish crap on the rear doors. Wish i had done this earlier!
glue came off easy with citrus cleaner!

Changed oil on diffs and checked condition on tranny and tcase.
Pressurizing a 4 litre can so it can fill itself. trick is not to blow up the can!

Did a few other fixes, adjusted rear brakes, changed brake fluid etc. and drove to get it approved.
YES! They did not find anything to remark, they said it was a good, clean and well maintained rig.
Two more legal years on the road! (oh yeah, thats a teq keychain!)

That's a good trick to fill the diffs.

Yeah, as long as the fill tube is big enough and the Schrader valve does not see oil, will seep back into the chuck and filler.

Tinkering with some other small stuff in the evenings... This has been on the list for the last 4 years:

the little plastic thing that holds the hood prop, finally got one!

oh, and a 2" hitch receiver got bolted on, has a nice solid shackle mount integrated. sweet!

Yeah, that picture is bad. But the wooden bumper end cap is good!
And here is a drawing from the maker of the mount, pretty clever:

Had an issue with the drivers window, goes nice down, but did not go up at all, just click click.
So i swapped the leads on the motor to have go up while i was on the road.

Now a few days later, im going mad not beeing able to open it!

Went over the whole switch block, cleaned the contacts. No go. felt the relay box up, it's clicking both ways...
Tore it apart, found a spot in the circuit board that had melted away on the skinny part.
Soldered in a jump lead, cleaned it all up, put back together, all good! Sweet!!

cleaning switches. (cant figure out why the auto down does not work...)

Fixed, with my emergency butane soldering iron: (love the weller portasol, always in the rig, great for this kind of stuff!)

good to go. Melted lead on the board was main power onto relay.
-part no on the 24v power window relay: 85930-90A01

oh, my, i got some updates. True or false: The cruiser now has been to the top of mount Olympus, tallest mountain of Greece.

yeah, you guessed it:
True.

Loved following you guys on Facebook. I wish we could have connected when I was in Aalesund this last July.

Yeah, too bad we weren't able to cruise closer to Ålesund, but we just made it home to start work 1. August. It's a 27h drive from my second family in the south, so we had a few days there after the Balkan trip.

Will post more pictures later on, was really my most epic trip!

Too far between the updates, been soo many nice miles since last!

Good thread!! Thanks to all in here, great inspiration.

some pics from last trip through Norway, North to south, then west, east, then North again.
Mostly solo, but hooked up with a friend with a sibling 61. He bought a clean HJ61 after loaning mine a few times too many.

Not many mods done last year, but i installed a Pioneer unit, flip up screen.
Been nice having a backup camera, since i almost daily use a trailer. Just makes hooking up faster.

Favorite thing about it, is beeing able to have a clean dash most of the time, phone away too.
It folds down when i need it to, and android auto is neat, especially with satelite images when seraching for camp in the night!

Had a few glitches with the alternator just "dying" on me for a few minutes now and then.
So i swapped the internal regulator, seen below. 24v.

2019-04-01 14.39.38.jpg

It worked, for some time. But mid-mountain, it dropped the voltages again, so i had to solder in new brushes, flat rock as a table.
Soldering on a string of lead to the copper wire really makes it easy to thread back in through the springs and solder at the terminals.
2019-04-01 20.47.21.jpg

Worked out fine. But still had one glitch after that, alternator not charging for about an hour, then it jumped back in.
Not sure what it is... ideas?
Really hard to find a replacement for the internal regulated 24v alternator.... so im carrying a spare external alternator, with external regulator, and will have to retrofit it somehow whenever that happens.

Anyone seen a 24v internal regulated for sale?

For hookin up a backup camera, this is where backup lights are positve, by foot cowl, clutch pedal area.
This is signal for a 24v relay switching a 12v signal to the head unit. That way i can manually turn on the backup camera with a separate switch too.

After cleaning up the dash wiring, i took the time to fix my glove box insert... Made it moist, pressed it into somewhat the oem shape, glued in a top shelf for the papers and manuals, and fixed the light, painted it again.
Turned out great, about a 342% improvement. that's how it is, when you cant afford @NLXTACY 's nice glove box upgrade!

Also added a gps tracker, and misc top secret stuff faaaar away hidden in the interior. a pain to wire, but runs on separate cell, will be able to find rig unless its in a lead container or jammed. Tracker is using cell towers, gps and log to track.
