Im impressed and you kick ass!
I test drove this one-- will keep an eye on your progress. What's the plan for the roof? Perfect candidate for a pop-top. cheers

Ah, the roof... I have been pondering this one for awhile...
Building a pop top for it is definitely one of the ideas I am floating around. The roof is going to have to come off regardless to repair holes in the structure underneath. I really like the idea of a Campteq, but would likely build my own. I'm practicing patching rust holes on non visable stuff first, working from the bottom of the truck up, and hopefully my welding skill will have improved enough for the roof.

More work on the winch. Seals, races, and bearings pressed in/on. All of the components are painted.
I used one of the old bearings as tooling for pressing on the new bearings onto the worm shaft.

Winch gearbox assembled. For whatever reason it had 3 shims when I disassembled it. According to the FSM it should have the same number on either side. It felt neither too tight or loose with 1 shim on either side, so now I'm left with an extra.

PTO driveshaft complete and installed. I easily turns by hand now. The original seals on the pillow blocks were felt to keep out dust. The new seals are standard oil seals that I stuffed with grease. Part numbers for u-joints, pillow block bearings and seals below:

That is superb.. well done on the winch!

This truck is so much fun, it is a tractor. And I've hardly had it off road yet!

The 2H is superb.. its not a huge rock crawler or mud slut.. but point it at a tall, long sand dune climb, throw in it low range and make you sure your tyres are good and low and it'll climb every single dune without hesitation. Not sure what sort of trips you do, but mine in the Australian Outback - the 2H seems absolutely designed for that exact purpose.

It is definitely different than my 3VZ and 4AGE, both of which love to rev!

Here in Southern California I do a fair bit of rocky goat trails and desert camping in my 4Runner.

Curious to follow along as you explore options for your high roof. I'd love to switch from my RTT to a pop-up but haven't explored enough yet to know if that's the direction I'll go.

I discovered what had previously punched a hole in the exhaust...
With the crazy leaf spring shackles, the rear sway bar was at such a ridiculous angle that it was able to flip up if I drove over a big enough bump!

Soon, the grinding of rivets will commence for some @TRAIL TAILOR C-Channels.
