Hi Guys I've just pulled my 2h out of the the 45 and almost ready to drop the 12ht in. I noticed I have a bit of play on the input shaft, both front to back and side to side. Just wondering how much is too much? does it rely on the spigot bearing? Also is the front bearing on the input shaft able to be replaced in situ? Thanks in advance I'm not too clued up when it comes to gearboxes!

that's pretty normal if I recall. seems like even all of the new h55s ive worked on have this. seems like there is a clip and it is actually what limits the movement of the bearing in the front of the case. It can be replaced and isn't very difficult. I was swapping input shafts and had to drop the counter shaft but if your just doing the input bearing I think you might could just pull the front bearing retainer and remove the clip.

I bought my H55 new from a dealer and wondered the same thing. I thought there was a crazy amount of movement in the input shaft. I am not familiar with the "clip" that roma042987 mentioned, but I don't doubt that it is there. Don't forget to use a split transfer case that that has the plastic oil drip spigot for the front gear.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm just going to leave it be for now. I'm looking to do a gearbox and transfer rebuild soon so will just sort it then
