It’s too bad you can’t get a 3 row tow vehicle with higher trims
The fact that Luxury and Luxury+ have lower tow ratings is annoying
You have to choose between trim/towing and 3 rows
The Overtrail+ only has the 8k towing and higher trims (like premium sound!)
But overtrail is only 2 rows, and no captains chairsv:(

I give them a C- for the way they did these trims
Maybe the hybrid will be better
lowering the tow rating on higher trim levels.. annoying
Agreed, I'd be forcing my wife into the Overtrail if we could get a third row. Otherwise, it's the Premium + for us.

Very keen to see this Brown Sugar Metallic color. That could definitely be my choice. I assume the color being cut off at the edge of the sheet is Meteor Shower, which I also like.
That's the first I've seen Brown Sugar Metallic. I wondered if it's a different name for Meteor Shower.
I'll be really annoyed if we get two whites AND two browns. 👎

Delivery pushed back a few months per multiple dealers. QC.
I went out and built a dummy "build" at lexus website. Seems you can get GX550 pricing there unless I'm missing something.

Any updates on the GX550 from the insiders in the Mud community?
someone posted this on a FB group today

A dealer told me today that they are expecting first deliveries in March - April. I don't know whether that is accurate or not. Time will tell.

The price between a well-equipped GX550 Overtrail+ ($77,460 minus sunroof, adding Marl Levinson and Cool Box) is way too close to the Land Cruiser First Edition ($76,695) IMHO. Why would anyone consider anything other than the lowest trim Land Cruiser when comparing to the GX550 as far as value goes??

I spec'd these more or less as I would want them:

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition

2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail+

$77,640 - $76,695 = $945 difference which gets one a more powerful, highly optioned, quieter, more comfortable, boujee'r vehicle. with pretty similar if not superior capabilities.

The only value I really see in the Land Cruiser is the 1958 or possibly not optioning the "Land Cruiser" trim much at all (I prefer the round headlights on the Land Cruiser for some reason).

Those prices don't include any other installed option, my 2017 when I bought it new started at $51,680 before all the added options. The new GX 550 Premium is $62,900 so that is an increase of $11,220. Sure it's a different vehicle but that's a 22% increase over 7 years.
Your 51,580 in 2017, adjusted for inflation in 2024 is 65,025, so it's actually cheaper.

Right, my point was inflation itself has gone bananas!
Meh.

Yes, we've had inflation, but it's nothing like when I was in my teens. I well remember 17% interest rates.

MSRP rose 36% on average last 3 years.
There would be major correction this year. A few manufacturers already got to lower their MSRP. Many people in the industry are really worried this year. Repo are thru the roof. People that are paying above MSRP are under water and many realizing it's cheaper to surrender the car just like houses in 2008.

So True. TFS/LFS and other big ballers in the auto finance game have been offering tow companies extra incentives to repo their cars first. Repo lots are full, the used market is being propped up by keeping the huge inventory of used cars stockpiled as to not overwhelm the supply. Dealers still try to pitch the covid lies on sales of new units using terms like "allotments", "ultra rare" bla bla bla. I got over $8,000 off of MSRP on my gx460 and anyone that would buy the new one and pay more for less, especially on the first few trucks off the line (bugs and quirks) is a fool.

reminds me very much of the hype around 2007-2010 v8 m3, c63 amg, audi S5, all in the 50k range. All had some adjustments. And then they didn't. Late 09 and 2010 was cream of the crop buying time for autos. IT didn't even matter back then what captive rates were, you could get a signature loan for 100k with little assents. And then you couldn't. Anyone remember that?
All that, just to say that things are getting weird. There's 37 new 4 runners at my local yard, all discounted for sale and one GR corolla inbound.
I would not under any circumstances buy any new car currently. Except last year models like '24 4runner, '24 gx, maybe possibly the last 6mt tacoma(at a discount)
oh, the 3 liter diesel silverado-sierra in the high 30's, f250 6.8 gas in the mid 37-40k. lol

cox 80 day supply feb 2024 update.

I have been waiting for this for so long and there have seemingly been so many alarm bells and warning signs..but yet...nothing happens.

What I worry about the most is that intervention will short circuit any actual downturn and we will all continue to get squeezed.

Me to, waiting.
It's a long slog. It is happening though.
I think most of the free disposable buyers money used the pay dealers ADM is dried up.
I think there will be prados and gx 550s sitting on lots at christmas. Hate me if you want. I dislike both.
Wife won't drive anything with a non twelve volt battery anyway. I'd take the 4runner and and gx460 before a gx550 or 80k prado. Probably shouldn't be saying those things out loud, at least not here.
Jpowell F ed it up already, and will continue to do so.
