Hey there, between the frame, engine, transmission being nearly the same and then Add in ekdss, rear locker, off road tires can we objectively say that the GX is objectively better off road? I guess in that regard we could say it’s better than the 100/200 also.

Chances of an LX being driven off-road?

Edit: Reread what forum I am in :p

The GX will be better than the LX600. It will have the beef the previous prado/GX lacked from the factory that the GX460 started to show.

The LX and GX are essentially the same in a lot of ways, but the GX is more tuned to offroad in the overtrail+. I suspect it will indeed be better than the LX600 offroad and likely the most capable stock Lexus vehicle ever.

Really hoping they can retain some of that special sauce in a future version of the lx600 in an overtrail trim.

E-KDSS and rear lockers alone makes the comparison a no brainer.

This.

I will be picking the OT+ GX, but bet your butt I will be selling that to move into an LX if they bring an OT variant. My wish list is short:
  • EKDSS
  • F/R Lockers from the GR300
  • Revised front fasica.

This is such a strange place sometimes.

Has any Lexus ever come with front lockers in the US? Has any toyota? It's not going to happen.
An overtrail version of the LX? Has anyone listened to, I don't know, every single piece of marketing from Lexus about the GX? The GX overtrail was made specifically to scratch this itch in the market. How much would an LX overtrail cost and would anyone take that offroad? People already claiming almost no 1st owners will be taking their GX's off road (speculation but there's some truth to this and we all know it). There is no market for an offroad purpose LX.

The LX450 came with F/R Lockers as an option.

There's no need to be negative about it. Lexus is evaluating the market and if the demand is there they could implement it. The supply chain is in place and the parts are sitting on the shelf. The LX600 offroad trim in Japan already has F/R lockers. Based on how well the OT GX performs will likely inform their decision. Let's not forget the LX600 OT Concept that Lexus commissioned from Dissent.

The masses will not off-road their GXs, same with the 4runner, Tacoma, Wrangler, and so on and so forth.

I can promise that I will be taking GX straight to LCDC if it arrives in time.

I most likely will replace my 200 at some point with a LX600. I will take it off road the same day I buy it. I do not need an OT as I will buy a base LX and add tires as I desire. The base LX has all the other goodies I need in the real world of offroading (at least for me). I don’t rock crawl but I do drive rough corrugated dirt roads, mud, etc, often while pulling a trailer, and the LX is fine for that. The GX is nice as well but there is no way I could look at that giant screen for the 15 years I will drive it.

Fair enough on the 80 series, I should have been more specific. Toyota/Lexus has never sent a front locking IFS vehicle to the US to my knowledge.

So you guys think there wasn't enough market for LC300's but there is enough market for off road trimmed LX600s? Seems odd.

So...you're going to look at two smaller screens instead?

Absolutely. At least that LX dashboard and display has a shape and some curves rather than a huge flat panel tv look.
Adding to that, I hated the LX600 centerstack layout in photos, but it was a lot better in person.

Still odd though.

I think off-road means a lot of things and better also means a lot of things.

Going the furthest in technical terrain before it becomes impassible for the vehicle - GX easily beats the LX in all but the AHC models. AHC at max height might get you past places the relatively low clearance on the GX would not.

Comfort on a 200 mile corrugated road, not sure how the GX would do vs the LX. My guess is AHC ends up pretty close to the GX with the electronic shocks, but possibly better. I'd also guess that a TRD Pro model of any of the Toyota stuff would do significantly better than any Lexus trim or model. The bypass fox shocks are just so much better for this type of road.

Driving dirt roads for a billion miles and durability - probably a wash. They're so similar that I don't think either would have a material advantage here. They're the same thing with slight variations between them.

If I had to pick one to go race in the Baja 1K in bone stock form - I'll take a Tacoma TRD Pro. Then probably the GX with KDSS.

I don't think LX600 with the overtrail treatment will sell very well next to the GX if the GX is 1/3 less expensive. GX is just too close to the LX for a lot less $. What would justify the higher price tag? A $200k Lexus Mega Cruiser might be differentiated enough to sell well though.

The Overtrail+ trim is starting to get within spitting distance of lower spec LXs. But I agree, the standard OT trim is considerably cheaper.

Reminds of a Sega Game Gear that they just stuck on top of the other screen.
