Thanks for the input.

It was just a whim... I typed in LX 450... I could not believe that was available so I went for it. They say 8 to 12 weeks, but what is the reality time frame on how long till it comes in? @jcardona1

Well in my case the wait was almost 2 years. I signed up when I posted this thread Dec'13 Vintage license plates available for any year vehicle!

At that time the program hadn't been kicked off yet. They were taking pre-orders. Whichever designed reached 7500 orders first would go into production. I finally received my plates Sep'15.

As the the build has finally progressed past suspension I've been just driving it most every day going to work but this last weekend we were able to play.
My girls told me we had to go to the snow... so it worked out just after several storms that came through we had a clear day on a day off. We were blessed to meet up with my friend @ToyotaDon & his kids. It was a great time. Here is a fun video to remember the day. Enjoy!

I did a vid to show what rpm is with 37" & stock gears while in OD, 3rd, 2nd at 60 & 70 mph. Add approx. 250 rpm for 315s.

This thread is amazing. Thanks so much for sharing all of your experiences and knowledge.

So, at this point, are you still running the JF80 front sway bar both on and off road? Does it restrict your front travel at all? (maybe I missed it, but I didn't see if you had numbers comparing no sway bar to FJ80 sway bar)

In the end, if you knew what you know now would you just go with the slinky springs and shocks with a 1" body lift and be done?

Thanks again,

On my rig my findings are both the thicker fzj80 sway bar & thinner fj80 restrict travel fj80. The fj80 restricts less. I have found my sway bars restrict more uptravel than down. The 24" free height Slinky coil along with the highly charged Icon shocks have no problem pushing downward to full exstension while my fj80 swaybar is on. At full compression there is about 2" of shock shaft left while even on two tires. Without the sway bar I can get full compression of shock while the other side is at full exstension.

The fj80 is a happy medium for lazy folk like me.

If I knew then what I know now... I would say the Slinky set up is as close to coilovers as one can get without cutting & welding.

I'm very happy with the ride & handling, it's the best that I have had on my rig. I find myself driving around to fast now. Infact I went up a curb & over a parking lot stop just for the fun the other day & got some mad looks at me like I was a freak of nature or something. I was safely away from all pedestrians.... the bus load of nuns are a different story though...:steer:

So nugget, with all your playing around would you say the shocks or the springs are a more critical part? I have OME springs and bilsteins 5650 and 5100s. Just don't like the lifted bus feeling. Trying to decide what to do first.

Wow. Are you going with brackets this time?
I still have the 2" MAF brackets on there.
There actually are 2.5" drop measured.
I just bolted the control arms on 15 minutes ago.

I had the springs on 1st with DT shocks then added the AC spec Icons later, so definitely springs.

I would describe it like:
Springs/Coils = the ride.
Shocks = the handling or more control.

With the Doetsch Tech shocks it was ok, but a bit sloppy. The Icons firmed up the handling & feels more controllable, they gave me more confidence in the rig.

Ok Hmmmmmm....... I might have to try the shocks first than. The ride on this is super cush. I just hate the feeling that if I had to do some quick maneuvers I might flop it. I am throwing the heavy swaybar on tomorrow so I will see how that goes. I rather have a safe ride than an extra inch or two of travel. BUT if I can have both I will! I just dont want to keep throwing money at this thing if it is always going to be so top heavy feeling. Your posts have been very informative and much like a cruiser anonymous meeting for me. I know I am not the only one!

You are just getting around to installing those drop brackets? I thought they were missing from photos you have posted.

No, I have had those on since you graciously gave those to me from your generous heart.

I don't extend that kind of generosity to just anybody. :hillbilly:

I'm putting up a FOR SALE feeler out there for my front bumper before I decide to start cutting the bull guard off. It's not the look I want for my rig. $400
