- We use Weather Resistant Vinyl Edge Grip Seals on the hatch doors

I'm using the existing frame so it's easy to install and it gives it that factory look.

Proto-type testing has been going well:

- Removal of the frame
- Installation of my hatch kit (frame and hatch/door)
- Gas Strut worked great in assisting the hatch to open (one is sufficient)
- Seals did their job at keeping the water out

The latch I used was something I had in stock and although it works I'm going to try different latches. I'm also going to be doing some roll forming as to tuck in the door a little more

I love this idea!!! It's very clean looking! One thing I would like is two latches instead of just the one! Will make it harder for those thieving bastards to get in!

Looks good Frank. Sign me up. (Annnnnd cough cough boat sliders) :D

I think it looks great. What would the ball park cost be? I'm sure there will be lots of input on improvements or modifications but I think a simple cost efficient setup would be a good start.

I agree that two locking handles would be great! I guess it depends on the locking mechanism on the single handle. IMO!

Latches can be expensive so I'd recommend options for either one latch or two. Two is extra security from prying open.

I'd be in for one made of glass that can only be opened from the inside :)
That'd defeat the whole purpose of it! I'm really diggin' this. Hope price is doable.

Awesome!!! I have been wanting one.. Hopefully it wont be to crazy expensive.

I have these latches on there way

They can be closed and locked or just latched closed so it's convenient when you're wheeling/camping. When you leave the vehicle unattended you merely lock them both

My goal is to make these affordable so WE can all be able afford them. @FloridaFJ80 I promise they will not be "crazy expensive"

Question: Would you buy 2 as a set or only need or buy a driver or passenger side?

@bmac1996acc I need 6-8 minimum buys to go back into production on the sliders. Talk to me via PM and we can start a GB with Fastenal Shipping

I thought these Gull-Wing Doors were a great idea when I first saw them in 07 on Robby Gordon's H1 Chase Trucks.

Optional screen inserts for those that like to sleep in the back!

I would buy both sides to keep it symmetrical.

Great job Frank, I like! I've seen the WagonGear flip up windows in person. They're awesome, really well built. If I had money to burn I'd love a set of those but realistically I don't.

Here's an idea - is it possible to make a flip up window using the stock sliding windows? Reason I ask is because some of keep our dogs in the back and they like to have the window open. Can't really drive down the freeway with the window flipped up I imagine. Or perhaps make it a quick release system to remove it entirely?

Cool idea man! My buddy Scott integrated rotopax fuel cans into the back window of his JK. Maybe a future model could include a recessed pocket to fit some extra fuel. Another option would be to have the hinge on the bottom on one side for use as an extra shelf/tiki bar while camping.

Great point Jose. I had you and all us dog lovers in mind with the doors being removable via a quick release and detach the gas strut. That way man's best friend can enjoy the breeze.

Not needed. Frank is using an easily cut material so no reason why there can't be a doggy door IN the hatch.
