fleaBay for $50 shipped from overseas. There's a lot of OEM side markers on there. Most are clear, every now and then you'll find somebody selling the amber ones.

big thanks !

I bought one of the first sets made I think, and haven't installed them yet.
I held off installing because there seemed to be problems with them.
I have a 96. So I need (4) 1157 bulbs, anything else ? thanks.

You also need a pick tool to open the plugs. If you have clear lens then you would need 4 - 1157NA

GL on your install.

So far, mine is performing as designed.

Sorry I'm late to the party,I'm in for one if they are still available and depending on the price. Price on the triple harness?Do have a ARB and will be getting those cool looking side markers as well and use them as side markers instead of ARB ones.Thankx

I think the problem was the difference in pin sizes between early model and later model 80 series wiring. As I recall the harness worked fine on the later year models and Gary changed out the pin sizes for '91 & '92 model years.

Not too late, I belive Gary plans on producing the harnesses for the foreseeable future. He only has the "stock" harness listed at this time so I'll check with him again on when he plans to add the ARB version to the site.

You'll have to do some modifications though to use the harness to power both the ARB lights and the side markers if that is your intent. Should be easy enough to splice in the additional side markers unless you were just going to leave the ARB lights out or not connected.

Ok, good to hear no issues with the install. Just gotta buy the pic tool.

I heard back from Gary re: the ARB harness. He has version 2 ready for testing and is sending it to me in the next couple of days. Based on the picture and the quality of his harnesses I have no doubt this will be the ticket :steer:

He is still finalizing pricing of the ARB version (which as some are contemplating could also be used to hook after market side markers/blinkers instead or even in addition with a splice). Part of the attractiveness to me of the ARB version is cleaning up the splicing from the ARB lights and the flexibility of being able to change things up easily. I imagine the price premium will be in the $10-$15 range over the stock version.

Bling w Innovative Harness

Now that I have dual park and signals I decided to upgrade to some bling.

My plan is Install a LED DRL with Amber signal into a stock signal lens. Gary is making a 1157 "Bulb end" with leads for me to plug it in like a bulb.

This DRL works like to Audi LED/Signal... The DRL turns off when the signal comes on.

Once I have the pieces I will post a build thread..

Success...The new ARB v.2 harness arrived on Saturday and I installed it on Sunday. Having the ARB pigtail come off the OEM blinker section of the harness makes this perfect.

I suggested that Gary add another 2" to the ARB pigtail on future runs. I did this because getting the female terminals out of the ARB connectors can be a ROYAL PITA  - It was hard enough with the wire and connector out "free" for me to work on originally...It was a whole 'nother story when installed - I have the pick hole in my thumb and a flat head screwdriver slice in my finger to prove it . Long story short, initially I didn't believe the terminals on the ARB pigtail locked into the connector (as I previously posted) but they did. The way I routed the PS ARB pigtail on the original version of the harness wouldn't allow me to pull the harness out without getting that connector off first. Ending up having to snip one of the female terminals off :frown:.

So, my suggestion would be to (A) determine how you want your ARB lights to function and connect things up that way from the get go and (B) if you change your mind down the road, disconnect the ARB light and pull the OEM blinker and harness out so that you have plenty of room to work. You can pull the entire harness out easily enough but hopefully with the extra 2" you'll have plenty of exposed pigtail to work with without having to pull the harness and without having a lot of wiring to tie up once installed.

The other option would be to just connect the female terminals up without the one ARB connector piece. The negative here is you'll have to protect/cover them somehow (liquid electrical tape or something) to keep them from touching because if they touch you will blow the tail light fuse (DAMHIK). And you'll want to wrap the area because there will be a lot of semi exposed wiring...Even with the connectors you get a lot of crud in there so I filled mine up with dielectric grease.

As mentioned before, you could use the ARB pigtail to connect up other side markers/blinkers if you don't have an ARB etc. Nice little option to have prewired options available for a small premium in price.

Pricing...For a limited time, Gary is offering the ARB version of the harness for only $50 - just a $5 premium over the current price of the stock version. I don't know how long the special pricing will last so get your order in soon!

Corsair23,

Great job seeing this through...

Ready to pull the trigger did he end out adding the 2'' on the pig tail?

Put me down for 1 harness please. :)

There's been a couple threads on either swapping the corner and marker lights or cutting up the harnesses to provide multiple functions.

I'm not really a fan of hacking up a perfectly good harness, so I contacted Gary over at Innovative Wiring to see what he could do. I had previously purchased his headlight adapter harness (which converts the 9005/9006 to a H1/H4 setup) and been extremely impressed with the quality.

The idea behind it is to have a plug and play harness that converts the existing 1156 bulbs (single function, on/off) to 1157 bulbs (dual function, on/flash/off). To get an idea of what's involved, you can take a look at the MoGas Mod, which is the same idea but splicing donor harnesses in rather than running an adapter.

To explain it a different way....

Input:
1156: Marker
1156: Turn signal

Output:
1157: Low: Marker High: Turn
1157: Low: Marker High: Turn

So basically you have two inputs and two outputs. The two inputs are two separate functions, the two outputs are running to dual purpose bulbs. So instead of discrete functions in the two light housings, you have combination lights in both.

The goal of this mod is to accomplish several things:

  • Both the corner (turn signal) and front (marker light) are converted to combination turn/marker lights.
  • The lights do not stop acting as marker lights when the turn signal is turned on.
  • Everything is plug and play using a high quality harness (easily reverted). No wires to cut or splice

So far, Gary doesn't think there will be a problem doing this.

So...any interest?
