The parts I'm considering are 315/75/16s, the 4" Slee lift kit and a 4.88 re-gear. Pretty good setup?

Also, am I able to fit 15" wheels? If so, what's a nice wide 35" tire size I should consider? I like the Pro Comp 252 deep dish style, but only came up with 315/75 16x10 pics online.

Thank you!

If you have a 91 or 92 15” wheels will fit, they were the stock size. 93-97 16” wheels are what you need. I am not sure, but 15” wheels may fit on a 93-97 if you grind the front brake calipers for clearance. More trouble than it is worth in my opinion, with so many options in the 16” size.

Pretty good set up for what exactly? What are your plans for the new configuration?

That's the exact setup on my junk.

I just still have the stock 16x8's - maybe it'll see 17's at some point, IDK.

I guess everyone is different, but I generally drive it and figure out what I need component by component. I would personally wait to re-gear. What year is your truck?

Yeh seems like a pretty standard setup. I have 315's with a 2" lift and extended rear bumpstops. 4" is pretty tall

Exact setup here
315’s on 17in level 8’s
Slee 4” lift, slee in front and kings in rear
4.88’s
(The 4.7 transplant helps move it along better.)

Color me crazy, but I'm likely going to split time with a lowered twin turbo coupe to do life here in crazy LA. The lease on my trusty and frugal Prius C is up soon. While I loved its bulletproof reliability, size and economy, there's zero excitement being behind the wheel.

This is actually my 4th Toyota truck all lifted with bigger tires. 2UZ-FE 4R, GX470, a SEMA Land Cruiser from a few years back... always wanted an FJZ80 and the solid front and rear axles. I will occasionally use it to explore the outdoors.

So if I were to stuff the typical 315/75/16s, is it overkill to go 4" high? I like going with Slee's kit because I know it's put together by a reputable dude. I would also re-gear so open to advice on which brand and which shop in Socal could handle this install job.

Kit Includes:
2 x SOF4FM Front Coil Springs
2 x SOF4RM Rear Coil Springs
2 x N60070L Shocks
2 x N60071L Shocks
1 x SD24 Steering Damper
1 x Slee Front Caster Plate Kit
1 x Double Cardan drive shaft.
1 x Front Sway-bar Drop Kit
1 x Rear Sway-bar Drop it
1 x Front 2" Bump Stop Drop Blocks
1 x Rear 2" Bump Stop Drop Blocks
1 x Set Stainless Steel Extended Brake Lines
1 x Front Panhard Rod
1 x Rear Panhard Rod
1 x Set Adjustable Rear Upper Control Arms.
2 x Breather Extensions
1 x Emergency Brake Cable drop bracket

Something like this would be nice:

Thanks, all! Esp the pics.

Nothing wrong with the Slee kit and it will do just fine. If you want even better suspension performance from a complete bolt on kit, check out the Slinky long travel kits from 4xOverland/Endless Horizon Outfitters. I run the Stage4 3" kit with 315's. There is also a Stage1 kit available.

Also, 4.88s is a good gear choice for 315's. I ran 315s on stock gears for years and wasn't bothered by it, but my driving style has changed over the years and a regear is a welcome upgrade with bigger tires.

IIRC, 15" rims fit the front, the rear is the problem. The clean way to fit them would be to swap a semi-float rear axle, then 15" rims will bolt on. Not sure why anyone would want 15" rims?

Having gone rubber-side-up, I prefer a 2-3" lift for 315's. But the slee kit is very comprehensive and will probably drive great.

So which kit do you recommend to fit 315s on a stock weight FJZ maybe maxing it out with a steel rear bumper with wheel carrier? I'm not interested in cutting corners. I just want to set it up right once and enjoy the jalopy.

Maybe this one? SK70804SLT Toyota 80 Series on Icon Suspension Aus Spec Kit Stage 4 Intermediate 70mm lift

Since the lift is 3" or less, does this negate the need for all the extras that the Slee 4" kit offers (e.g. panhards)?

Either the Stage1 or Stage4 kit will work for 315s. For a lighter truck the Stage1 would work but heavier trucks definitely benefit from the Stage4 and the bigger shocks are more necessary. The Stage4 is going to be the most versatile and best performance of just about bolt on suspension available.

You will still want some kind of caster correction as well as swaybar extensions. Panhards aren’t an absolute requirement but are strongly recommended. The kits are very comprehensive with all needed parts for a complete suspension system and other optional parts such as panhards are available.

I'll probably go with 70mm stage 4 to fit the 315/75s, but it doesn't list the panhards, caster correction part(s), or the swaybar extensions?

The swaybar extensions will be part of the kit. There are different options for caster correction; plates, bushings and bearings. The panhards and control arms are separate but will be on the EHO site. Give Kevin a call over there and he’ll hook you up with all the right parts.
I have a full Stage4 kit on my truck and it’s been the best mod to the truck I’ve made.

3” slinky stage 1 on 315’s, 4.88 with arb’s...goes everywhere I point it, although some beef on the rear link frame buckets would be mice:)

It might have been the rims, but when I tried to put 15x8 American Racing Outlaw IIs on my 97 Cruiser, I started by trying to fit them to the front and they would not clear the caliper. So I gave up at that point. OEM 15” rims might have been different.

-Slee 4” lift kit (medium)
-Slee billet control arms
-Nitro 4.88 (OEM parts kit)
-Procomp 16x10 252s
-315/75 BFG KO2s

The above will get me the FZJ80 tank look I want so badly plus something that’ll drive well in the urban video game jungle that is Grand Theft Auto Los Angeles. It’ll unfetter me from worrying about all the crazy potholes, inclines, sketchy expansion joints and 110 fwy undulations cast upon me by a lowered spots car on low profile 30 series sticky tires. It’ll also get me out into the PNW wilderness this Summer.

So about $6500 for parts + install. I heard Yotamasters is a good shop in my neck of woods.

Thoughts?
