Mounted up and torqued part way.

Won't be able to finish today but it's coming.

I commend you for your perseverance. It'll have been well worth the headaches once you're done. Added bonus for the rest of us is that WALCS will now have an in-house carb expert.

Good score on the header, but why wasn't Tucker over there helping? You must have run out of beer. ;)

Did you ever get that clogged fuel line clear enough to use? I think I'm seeing the old crimped line in that last pic.

Update, I'm losing my mind. I purchased from a local a brand new 6-1 Man A Free header and intake manifold off a 75 2F from a local converting to diesel, both pieces had been machined to match. I measured each bolt location before the buy with calipers and examined with a straight edge, flanges at the bolts were exact and the surfaces were flat.

Stopped by Edwin's open house at the Landcruiser Specialist a couple of Saturdays back had he mated up two Felpro gaskets with a bead of the Right Stuff which he indicated was his fool proof solution to leaks with headers. The following Day I cut off my dual exhaust that was welded to my dual 3-1 headers and mounted up the manifolds. It was effortless in comparison to wrestling with the exhaust attached to two headers. I used all new hardware and it all came together writhe ease.

Since the whole thing had been torn apart I went back thought the carb again with fishing line focused on the idle circuits. Was unable to run line thought the passages below the slow jets and I'm unsure if this is normal, everything else was clear.

Pulled it all back together and fired it up to take to the exhaust shop for a pipe from the header to the muffler. Once done and home I realized that I had accomplished a great deal and solved zero percent of my problem. I extremely confident I don't have a vacuum leak at the head and manifold, but I still can't idle without the choke. Any ideas? I'm going to replace the distributor cap and rotor tomorrow since its been quite a while but I'm really struggling. May pull a volunteer carb that works off another running 40 to mount on mine to eliminate another variable.

Bummer. I have been there, so I have a spare carb that I used to convince myself that it wasn't the carb that was the problem. If you need it, let me know.

That's an awfully kind gesture. I going to chase a couple more gremlins, test compression etc and then refocus on the carb. I have one offered locally but will have to pull it from another Mudder's truck.

Can you post some new pictures of where you're at currently? Gas filter connections, carb insulator base connections, EGR blocked off, etc.?

Get it from Dave and slap it on. Like you said, it's a 20 minute job for you now, and he's offering. That would allow you to either cross the carb off the list, or tell you what you needed... (new carb).

OK I went earlier today to pickup a distributor cap and rotor up from the local dealer and when i got home it was the wrong parts. I'm a 8/77 and the parts that i was sold were 19101-45060 CAP and 19102-45150 ROTOR and these were too large (cap diameter was too large) for my base on my vac advance distributor. I could not find a number on my original ND parts that correlated to Toyota's #'s. Any help with the correct part #''s is appreciated.

Going to swap carbs with a local tomorrow to narrow the delta. Edwin at Specialist touched my truck this pm and he is thinking the carb rebuilder is to blame. Went ahead and had a couple IPA's with the boys and an extra Rita at dinner with Momma to soften the complement. God I love this machine right now.:grinpimp::cheers:

It's all good, Kelly. I had three margaritas with my Momma, in honor of your issues! ;)

Thanks Jeff!

We had a couple of pitchers of 512 IPA pondering ...

Yep and I enjoyed the hops before hopping on the Rita. No stories like your last weekend though, will save them for the K2 fest in Mason TX in a couple of weeks. Hope to meet a bunch of you yahoos then.

Here is the current setup from a wide angle, sorry for the cell phone picks.

Vacuum to the power valve and the TP are coming from the gas filter.

I had tried getting both from the manifold below the carb but it's capped now. I just switched this this morning after looking at a Jim C diagram. It may have been better the way I had it before.

I don't have an EGR

What was the outcome of trying the other carb this afternoon?

Tucker

Didn't go trade them out. Changed my oil and did a couple of other things to her to get ready for Katemcy. When I was done I broke out the carb cleaner...hate to report that I'm still leaking at the manifold.

Are you sure that the vacuum connections for the PV and TP is correct? They need manifond vacuum and I think that where you have them now is some kind of switch and not manifold vacuum. Even if this is not the proper vacuum, I doubt it is the cause of your problems.

Yep that was after originally having both the PV and TP teed off the manifold port in the 3rd pic. Bottom line, I was looking for a silver bullet that was anything other than taking it all apart again. But after a few shots of good ole Berrymans carb cleaner I came to realize that I still have not solved the problem at the head.

Going to take it down and clean it up then get some more eyes on the surface of the head. I don't want to but may need to pull the head to machine the manifold mounting surface. I few years ago I lost the HG and had a local Toyota shop do the work, including the full head job since it was off and was told that the head was in great shape. Just wondering if the manifold surface is not perfectly flat although it seemed to be when i put a 2' level on it before this last reconstruction.
