I'm working on ordering everything I need for my upcoming paint job- those of you who have done it, did you replace all window and door seals, rubber gaskets, weatherstripping, body trim, window felts, emblems etc? Can any of it be reused? I know cuiserparts sells a weatherstripping kit, but I don't think it includes everything I might need. I don't want my paint guy held up because I can't find a certain piece.
The door seals are new- replaced by the previous owner, but I'm not sure if they will be damaged when I remove them.
I'm pretty nervous about taking apart my new baby, so any advice would be appreciated

Just pulled all of my glass out for paint. My rear cargo windows gasket and lift gate window gasket are own from @beno. I used City Racer for every other gasket: front windshield, door window runs, door gaskets on every door. Local glass shop charged $50 a window to rope the 4 windows in. I used the window lock strip kit from Trail Tailor to replace the chrome lock strip. Gaskets are cheap in the scheme of a quality paint job, replace them and they’ll last another 30 years.

Check eBay for that or your local stealership for anything available.
I know mud member Reevesci sells seals as well.

Depending on the condition, all the door and window seals can be reused. The door seals in particular just pull off, easy.
Word of Caution: The windows are all held in with that chrome trim in the window gaskets. This chrome is in fact the lock strip
to seal the windows. It also is designed like a 'cap' and has a plastic support trim within it. Lots of info here on removing/replacing
the chrome strip with lockstrip replacement kits. So the front window, rear side windows and the rear hatch window all have this
chrome trim. It is possible to remove the windows carefully without removing the trim. All I'm suggesting is be really careful
either way. I damaged both side and front chrome on my truck, which I kind of regret. I just didn't have any idea.

The emblems can be lifted carefully with a trim removal tool. I'd suggest doing it yourself and be patient as they have insert tabs
and all the plastic stuff breaks easy. There are little tin capture inserts in the steel work to hold them in. Should they be rusty
when you pull the emblems you can buy them from Toyota, they aren't that expensive.

Anyhow, good luck. J

Bringing this one back to life. I'm getting ready for a window out paint job and looking for the hatch glass weatherstrip, ideally without the lock strip. Any good leads on where to find that one?

I painted my truck 10 months ago. I used a new OEM gasket with the Trail Taylor lock strip. It’s worked perfectly. Not aware of an alternate gasket that doesn’t require the lock strip.

Did the same and those lock strips from Trail Tailor worked great on my other rig - just had to use the specialty tool and a bunch of Syl Glide. City Racer sells the cargo window rubber without the lock strip but just trying to find the one for the hatch glass. Trying to save one step by ditching the lock strip, I guess. I've seen them on eBay over the years but am hoping to use a 'Mud vendor.

You know I have removed glass without touching that lock strip. It still can be removed and installed leaving the rubber around the glass. I start on the inside with two flat screw drivers and carefully work the rubber outside of the flange. The "lock strip" really does not lock it. It still comes out. Then you can leave it there. To re-install I use a thin but strong rope all around and with help push it against the flange while another person pulls the rope gentlely.

I've removed my windows with the lock strip out and without removing it. I did not really tell a difference. It's difficult either way.

Probably one of the few here that has done a paint job without removing all glass, gaskets, etc. There were ones that I did remove but others that I did not take the time too (didn't trust myself). After doing the paint job, I really wish I would have taken the time to do that and replace the gaskets and whatnot. But it is what it is. Never anticipated or thought I would have anything more than a 5-10ft paint job.

@gregnash I think this is the classic dilemma we all face with how far should we go in our efforts to preserve our rigs. Obviously time, money, and expertise are all factors. The "while I am in there" mentality can either make a project take an extra 5 minutes or two years.

LOL... Right!!
I thought that paint job would end up being like a 1-day things and then ended up spending something like 18hrs doing all the prep then another half-day doing the actual painting (wipe down, prep, mix, spray, cure, etc.). I did mine in my driveway and really wouldn't have an issue doing it in the driveway again knowing what I know now. Ultimately, it comes down to how far down the rabbit hole you want to go!

BTW @gregnash I'll be up in Truckee come Christmas time with my family. Maybe we can get a Land Cruiser meetup somewhere nearby - like Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe or other. Even better, we get some snow 4-Wheelin.

@hygge Post up in the BBCNN clubhouse and see if we can get something together. I should be around and will for sure be up at my family cabin in Kings Beach one of the days. Not huge on snow wheeling, especially since I am in the process of selling my 60, but if something is put together would be happy to ride. If nothing else, maybe we can meetup and talk cruisers somewhere up that way.

My paint shop had a guy come by and remove and replace the glass. He said the gaskets were fine. Removed and replace the windows and left the chrome strip in place. Well worth the 150 he charged. My front glass was already replaced and didnt have the chrome.

I prefer leaving the chrome strip in. When I took it out it was very hard to not damage putting back in.

I used some “chrome” lock strip I got from @TRAIL TAILOR that looks spot on factory. I’ll post a pic shortly. I wanted to keep the OEM 80s look. :)

Definitely use a lock strip tool to install but it looks perfect :D
