need to order a set of the gears and plugs...subscribing...

plastic gears

Just placed an order for several sets. Replaced 2 sub housing assembly this morning.

Just ordered 2 caps & 2 gears. Sure hope I don't screw up the install!

Something that may be worth watching, when I replaced mine I wasn't sure how tight to tighten the plastic pieces during assembly. Now that mine is all together it's real slow and feels like it's really straining the motor. So maybe don't tighten the screw fully.

Tightening it too hard will put a strain on the motor. I do it to finger tight or a little less.

Huge props to nakman for a great product! Shipping was so fast you'll freak. As you can see below I was in desperate need of a new gear.

Side note, a 12mm 6pt socket was perfect for pressing the new gear on. The metal shaft fit perfectly in the socket with little play and made sure the gear pressed squarely.

Just finished up my drivers seat today. Great product and great instructions!

on my to do list again....

Just replaced the passenger side gear & cap. If the seat didn't move when purchased you can probably assume that the slides are not even, it is probably not as important to make sure the 2 shafts don't rotate as it is to make sure they are extended the same distance from the bracket that bolts them to the seat rail. I very carefully made sure I didn't rotate either shaft when I removed mine, put it all back together and the seat moved very slowly. Took it all apart again and noticed that the shafts were an inch different in extension, twisted one shaft to match the other and the seat now works great.

Hey all, just wanted to sing the praises of Nakman some more. Have a beloved LX450 with 259,000 miles that still purrs like a kitten but both front seats jammed up and stopped in full forward position several months ago. No parts available from the dealer and well over $1k stated by dealer to fix both the "failed" front seats. Saw this thread, spent $40 for the two white caps and gears, they arrived the next day, had the caps replaced in under 20 seconds (no sh@!t) and both seats now work perfectly (gears apparently still good). Wife and kids looked at me with newfound wonder and I can drive my truck again!!! Awesome!!!

our '94 FSM does not have the torque spec for the rod nuts - could somebody please post the number ?

Thanks in advance, Claudia

So I'm in the middle of this project on my new to me 95' and I have a couple of little "issues"

First, it seems there is another gear housing that contains a gear, is this gear metal or just never strip? I'm wondering why I'm going through all this only to hope that the other gear isn't stripped as well?

The other thing is, I didn't have a rubber washer between the top metal washer and the gear housing, I had yellow goop that was sticky. (mentioned earlier in the thread) I just wiped it off and plan on putting grease on top of the washer. If this is a no go please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

So did you find that out after you put it all back together or did you pull the other gear to look at it first?

I went back out in the garage and sure as crap, the other gear on the driver seat which I'm working on is stripped. This is frustrating!

Ok, the driver side is working, took both gears to make it happen. I suggest anyone doing this job to just plan ahead and do both gears when you pull it apart. It's a straight forward job and the instructions on the gear supplier's website are helpful.

I found it very helpful to not try to keep the jack screws and mounts from turning because they may be out of alignment anyway. Just wind them all the way down and then back them off 1 turn so they don't get bound up to the welded stops. This assures equal distance. Also if you have sticky "goo" between a metal washer and the top of the gear housing, just leave it there. It seems it was designed to provide some shock loading for the weak plastic gear. I wiped one side off thinking it was just old grease but I can tell from the other side it was by design. I just found a washer that was the equal width and greased it up and used that.

The seat functions as it should now, just wish I had the passenger side working as I thought I would. Still can't figure out why it's suggested to only change out 1 gear when doing this job?

That sticky goo is old grease, same grease you'll find through out the assembly. Repack it with new grease.

Thanks OP.

Bought 2 sets from your co, followed the directions and tips and replaced both DS and PS gears & nuts. Only 1 day in but so far so good.

Both gears were worn badly. Previous to repair the DS didnt move at all and PS would only vibrate.
