Been a little while since I've posted here, my oil line fiasco had further reaching consequences than I realized. Long story short, oil starvation scored a couple of cylinders and FUBAR'd the engine :bang: Sourced and replaced with OM617a number two out of an '84 300TD, costly mistake:( Got her up and running again, working on a punch list for the LSLC Roundup next month. You live and you learn right?

Jinkees! That would be very disappointing...
I remember when I was so disheartened I listed mine for sale.
Keep the faith!
Endeavor to persevere.

I might have sent my 40 into level III preservation out at the boneyard...
I definitely buried it in the garage for a while and cursed it under my breath every time I walked by :(
I need to relocate my filter because it's extremely hard to get the filter out with the speedo cable, but I think I might look to adjust the cable vs messing with the filter housing.
I'd say this is a wise idea;)

You guys are scaring me. Should I go back to the stock configuration? I don't know it the canister will even fit.

Just make sure you're not restricting any flow whatsoever.

Personally, I think the OEM design is pretty slick with bypass, thermostats, etc.

glad you are running again Tucker. You'll have to tell more on how the oil starvation occurred.

I mounted the oil filter housing horizontal instead of vertical, probably the same thing that caused the starvation in Manny's 40. The MB oil filter housing is not a simple filter attachment, changing it from the stock configuration had unforeseen consequences :(

So in the last few weeks I've managed to accomplish the following:
  • Complete new exhaust
  • New ebrake cable fabbed (pull handle to integrated drums - California push-pull)
  • Autometer oil pressure gauge (wish I had this before!)
  • 4+ extended bump stops
  • Bent H55 shifter
  • Fixed 4WD shift linkage
  • Install modified front DS (lengthened)
  • Rebuilt front heater (MetricTLC kit)
  • Modified transmission cover for new shifter locations
  • Fabbed brackets and installed Smittybuilt console
  • Installed stereo (yeah!)
  • Multiple wiring fixes under dash
I've got a Lock-right sitting on my bench ready to install in the rear tonight, wish me luck on having the correct shims to space it properly. Drove it to work this morning, looks like I'm a go for rolling out Fri morning for Katemcy Rocks!

A lot of work indeed! Good to see it up and running. On the H55 shifter, how did you bend it, keeping the same shaft. As you know, I made a whole new shifter, because I destroyed the original one.

Pictures! :)

Yeah, I had a blast. Tucker's rig did really well and the OM617/H55 combo was unstoppable. I'm more motivated now to finish my pig!

Here's a shot of most of the Austin trucks.

Wow! Too bad Henry Brimmer is not making the Land Cruiser calendars any longer. That would be the perfect Piggy picture for his calendar.

I remember one year he was going to put out a calendar w/o a Pig and I darn near wet myself. Actually, now that I think back on it, maybe I am part of the reason he no longer does calendars! He probably thought it would be easier to just quit doing the calendar than manage the griping from people who do not see their favorite variation of Land Cruiser...

Sorry T, just had to post this one of her "driving" home yesterday. Seriously let me know if you need help with the fuel issue.

wish I could have been there for the WALCS shot... had a good time on Friday though.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but Tucker got high center twice on Friday and had to be winched out, twice. Pretty amusing but those sliders did their job.
