I sold it to a State Farm insurance salesman's wife before I left Texas.. She/they had all the bondo sand blasted out of it, (was worse than I thought)...so they put a new Aqualu 3/4 tub on it and it is now painted midnight metallic blue.. OH! and has a 400 fuel injected Chevy SB with a TH400 as well.. :meh: re-vamped the steering, corrected the ill-fabbed C&T, new 4 wheel disc brakes, electrical harness, charging system, suspension, found a hard top and painted it to match and installed a vintage air AC unit to boot....I'd say they put about 15-20K into it. Sounds like a very nice 40 now. The insurance guy had a few connections I'd say... I'm waiting on pics....

EDIT!

GUYS..

Just brought to my attention... This 40 was never touched... I have left a voicemail for him to see WTF... INSURANCE SALESMEN!! Looks the same to me.... Just an FYI.

I think I have the original non-USA carb from the rig in a box in my garage... just another conversational tidbit.

Momentous occasion today, the disassembly phase is complete and it's all installing new parts from here ;-). I can't tell you what a PITA the front crank seal and rear main are on this motor, I should have just pulled the damn thing (almost full disassembly, I had to drop the freaking crank for gods sake). On a brighter note, the front crank seal rides on a replaceable spacer ring which is pure genius (other than the $70 it cost). No honing the seal wear groove ;-)

Got my box of parts from Georg for the t-case, back on that while I wait for the spacer ring and harmonic balancer locator pins :-)

Last nights progress, buttoned up the split case:

On the motor side I installed the crank seal, spacer ring, locator pins, harmonic balancer, and timing chain tensioner with new spring (wasn't as meticulous with the MB pics):

I also dropped of another new lower oil pan to be notched and both my driveshafts to be modified yesterday ;-) Big wrenching weekend, stay tuned for lots of updates -

Tucker,

I'm excited for you, I think that's going to be a great combination.

I don't remember now, are you using a twin stick setup?

Got the front of the motor put back together and the remote oil filter adapter installed this evening:

Also had my refinished tank delivered from Houston by my good buddy SeaKnight:

More to come tomorrow ...

I like the rear door kick out on the slider. Protects the rocker and front corner of wheel well, but serves nicely as a step.

Did they cut the tank open and clean and coat the inside or just pretty it up? I got that old one from Jas that I'm going to workover. Cut open, add baffles, clean, weld some better mounting attachments and hopefully clone for a few extras..

Doing good things here T. I found a '76 piggy.... but not sure if I'm ready for 3 projects simultaneously..

They cut 8 small holes (two on each side) and media blasted it inside and out, had to cut more holes to account for the baffling. Turned out great -

Got the tranny mounts cut off the frame, clutch slave mount cut down, & bellhousing/flywheel/clutch installed today ;-) Grinding in small places sucks ...

Also got this pic of my finished oil pan:

My friend Steve took the slider to his shop to do the final welds, should have it back this evening.
