The truck was in the AC shop last week...

I went and inspected it last Thursday and it blows nice and cold! I'll be posting more details in the AC install thread.

It's back at the main shop now getting some final "magical touches" as they put it to me. Should be in my driveway within 2-3 days!

So freakin' excited!

cant wait to see it being ridden in the city....an head turner for sure...congrats Joel.

What kind of radiator are you using? The reason I'm asking is that FJ40s with AC require a different type of radiator that is no longer available.

I'm using a stock radiator (16400-61020)... it's actually a fairly new one.

FJ40's with AC don't have a different radiator, at least not per ToyoDIY. They do have a different radiator support as there's a bracket that the condenser attaches to. I sourced one, however I didn't end up using it because I went aftermarket on the condenser. I found an OEM condenser but everything I read said newer condensers are far more efficient and unless I was going for true-blue resto then a NOS condenser was a lot of money for less effective AC.

Sweet Dreams !

How sweet they've been!! I did receive the truck... I've just been so busy driving, enjoying, and a bit of tinkering. =)

The winch motor, solenoid, and brake gear is in my hands to wrap up... I didn't want to let them have ALL the fun.

Here's a shot of the front dash with my custom touches...

And of course, riding with the boys. They LOVE the 40 in it's new glory. My oldest was shifting the gears for me on the first ride. =)

Joel, so happy to see your completed project. Best of luck for enjoying it for many many years to come :)

I have started my restoration project back home too. Still need to make a thread here at mud, but have one already at Restoring my Toyota BJ40 1979 - Stock Restore with Slight Modifications - 279634

Thumbs up.

Congrats--looks great. Let us know how the A/C works in that climate.

Oh, I remember those two rascals, playing trumpet on Dad's exhaust pipe !

Thanks man... I'm subscribed to yours!

Happy days, Joel!!

It turned out great!!

Thank you!

AC works good so far... but I need to take it in to have a few things checked.

Very nice Joel!!

Good luck with the new Toy!

Thanks!

I've already had some fun with it.

We typically do Thanksgiving dinner with friends here in the UAE and the last several years we've done it as a picnic in the desert. This year we took the 40 and the 80 out along with 4 other vehicles/families.

Here we are airing down (fog lights are on as my boys like to flip the switches)...

The 40 drove in the dunes like a dream. The tall and skinny tires floated real nice and the truck is so light. In 4LO it just coasts around amazing! I managed to get stuck pretty bad at one point... mostly owing to the fact that I'm still learning how to properly drive a manual in the sand.

Observing a bit of a recovery effort...

And enjoying turkey, stuffing, green-bean caserole, and a few more international offerings around the fire...

I've had a few little odds and ends to finish up on the truck. Parts I couldn't source locally or just forgot to purchase in time for the re-assembly at the shop.

This weekend I put on the "escutcheon" for the driver's side ambulance door interior handle as well as a new oil cap.

Man that oil cap looks purty!

It's the little things...

And my younger boy hasn't forgotten how to play the tailpipe horn...

Hey Joel...wow your FJ40 looks amazing!! and the engine looks brand new. just amazing. I'm really jealous.

Is this all Diamond Engineering's handy work? Thinking of make some adjustments to my truck, but not here Qatar. Don't have any quality workmanship here, will have to get your reference and costing details.

Thanks man. The restoration exceeded my expectations!

Restoration was done by a specialty shop in Sharjah actually. They generally only do old cars... and specifically Cruisers and Mercedes (weird combo, I know).

Worth every penny!!! I can't get over that picture of your engine...it looks so good. Mine is a disaster zone.

I installed the convex mirrors. @GA Architect is right, night and day difference from the flat ones!

Also drove the truck to a gathering at a local hotel last week... the valet decided to keep it parked out front on display. =)
