I'm in the market for a new suspension set up for my FJ60. After reading countless threads on here it seems the two best options are Dobinsons and Old Man Emu. Seems there is a pretty even divide between what one is preferred. Some have said Dobinsons is best for full build out (heavy) vehicles, and others have said they prefer OME every time.

My use case for the vehicle is to use it as an adventure vehicle, take camping, road trips, etc. I'm thinking of adding on a roof top tent and possibly a drawer system in the back for gear. I don't plan on adding front and rear bumpers (at the moment at least).

Looking to get insights and opinions from those who are personally run either of these systems on their 60. With this being a $2,500 - $3,000 investment, I appreciate any/all help.

Thanks!

(PS thank you to all the shops who have shared their personal insights on this already).

I went with Dobinsons, but I haven’t installed it yet so I can’t offer any opinions. What I really wanted tho was the Terrain Tamer parabolics. I haven’t read a bad review on those yet. But they blew my budget, by almost double (in Canada).

I went with Dobinsons on my HJ61 and am very pleased with it! I bought the kit from Exit Offroad and then paid $1200 for a local spring shop to install.

I've had 3 different 60's with OME and have loved them all. If you're concerned about your setup and the suspension working together, I'd reach out to Cruiser Outfitters. They will design a system for your needs.

Another vote for OME - I'm running OME heavies with a 38 gallon long range tank, swingout bumper and an ARB up front. My 60 rides better than my coil sprung Subaru did.

I've also had OME suspensions on all my Toyotas and have been really happy with them.

We would love to help at @ Cruiser Outfitters We stock the full range of Old Man Emu and Dobinsons suspension systems for the 60 Series as well as any/all 'while you're in there' parts you should consider, complimentary extended sway bar links, Bilstein shocks, caster shims, etc.

Our suspension specialists will talk through your past, current and future needs and dial in a suspension. All sold, packed and shipped by Cruiserheads as soon as today 😎

Lots of newer faces in the OME & Dobinsons game as of late but we've been at it for over 30 years and will be around with parts when you need them in the future too!

I run OME with Bilstein shocks and am very happy with the ride on pavement and gravel/forest service roads.

No experience with Dobinsons so can’t give any comparison. My guess is you’ll be happy with either once it’s on.

I went w Dobinsons, ride is nice but...

... I wish I had bought it from Kurt & Krew for the reason(s) above. To do it right, there's more to it that just "buying the kit", as I figured out on my own after the fact. Add a brake proportioning valve spacer to the list above.

Ha, The installer had to redo the garage door twice even after showing him my truck for measurement first.

The wheels are the Nomad Arvo 17 x 8.5 -25 rims. I have stock axles, no spacers and no modifications to the width. The tires are 285/75 r17 BFG All Terrain KO3. My suspension is a new OME heavy / heavy with the Cruiser Outfitter extended shackles.

The rep at Nomad was interested that I was running such an "aggressive" offset but they still sit just inside the wheel wells on a 60.

This tire is 33.8" x 11.3" per BFG

I need to see some more of this truck. Is that bedliner? Also, what rack is that?
