Different people have different comfort level talking to strangers. My wife would never ask. Most people probably wouldn't ask.
I am a realtor, I have had to get over my shyness, I would knock on door, introduce myself and tell them I loved pigs and a little about mine and ask if they want to sell theirs . If they say no ask them if they are thinking of moving anytime soon. If they say no ask them if they have ever thought of purchasing a rental property. Still no, Ask them if they would mind me checking back in a few months, then give them my card in case their situation changes.
