Gee, so that means Jason can be just a passenger, and not holding the flashlight so you can see? When he told me he had to do that on the drive to dinner last night, for some strange reason, i thought of this..

Burned out rheostat, nice find. I haven't seen a rheostat fail like that before! I would think that the fuse would protect the circuit but I guess the rheostat is before the fuse!

Yeah it was weird, I think the faulty trailer plug shorted and sent it back to the rheostat? Electrical gremlins are not my strong point.

Well, it followed me home so I have to keep it right? Th fact that it's an old Toyota bed didn't hurt anything either. I picked up this little number yesterday with the plan of making a camping trailer for the family. Quick rundown of the plans are, spring over with 31's, camper shell with sleeping platform inside, storage box on space between box and tongue, install the awning on the camper shell with the ARB awning room. Lots of other little details to work out but I'm in no rush and want to try and make it a fun project.

Nice!!

Love it dude. Glad you were able to make this happen. Happy to help if you need it. We'll kick back and drink some cheerwine and get her done. lol

Absolutely!!

Little test fitting yesterday, was hoping to use the clamps to hold down the top for quick removal if needed but looks like I'm going to have to drill holes in the bed tails and bolt down. Also looking for 2 wheels for the trailer, 15" wheel with a bolt pattern of 5x4.5 if anyone has some.

Search on CL for ford ranger wheels. you'll have your choice in alum or steel for cheap, probably with off road tires too

Good call, had been searching Jeep wheels but the Ranger didn't cross my mind.

Why not use truck cap clamps like these? I used to have a LEER cap on an S10 and their J-clamps were awesome over 7 years and many on/offs.

The camper shell I bought came with a set of those but I didn't realize that the truck bed doesn't have an inner lip. It's smooth all the way to the top of the rail.

well damn

Oh yeah man that's just my luck. Nothing major just wanted it to be easy to remove the camper shell. Of course I've been screwed by the unforeseen so many times I've come to expect things like this.

Thats what we discussed (well using existing holes but nutserts is even better plan) yesterday as an option. Just have to look at overlap of inner edge now that bedliner is out.

I've got a nut sert tool if needed

Well time for a long overdue update. My 80 had sat since early march due to the oil filter debacle. After months of going back and forth with Wix I just couldn't stand seeing my 80 sit any longer so I decided that trying to get them to accept some responsibility wasn't worth letting it degrade anymore due to just being parked outside. I had intended on getting a new short block from Toyota and using the head from the motor I bought from The Petersohns. I decided to run the vin on the donor motor through carfax and found out that the 80 it came from was totaled with only 90,000 miles and it looked really clean so I decided to use that motor and shelf the short block idea and put the difference in price toward a lift and tires. I intended to due the swap with help from Jason and Rice but I haven't had a spare second lately much less a spare week for the swap and even though they are more than willing I hate to rely on them as heavily as I would have to. So I decided to have a local mechanic due the swap for me. He worked at a Toyota dealership for 20 years and he's done work for me in the past. The motor runs great and we were able to use many of the new parts I had put on the old motor. Really happy to be driving the 80 again:steer:
