I hacked holes in the door cards.
I still haven't figured how I want to hide the wire.

And made enclosures for the rear corners.

And a retrosound head unit.

Not the best stereo I've had, but way better than just listening to the constant arguing between the voices in my head.
I would like to bolt a powered subwoofer under the driver's seat at some point.

Maybe there is an opportunity in getting a couple of speakers integrated into an aftermarket dashboard pad?

My original install had a speaker box behind the duct between blower and heater (using factory holes on firewall), and a speaker under the ('75) driver's seat (bailing wired in place). I thought that was about as good as it gets for a minimally invasive install.

Home-made speaker boxes, bailing wire, sliding stuff all around the back, hi-lift jack banging around and the bouncing ride of my 40…all old school methods in my book and I did them all… I think beyond cutting the door cards and solid mounts in the rear corners, which will work well, the Bluetooth thing deserves a try. Certainly seems as though the price is right

Drill hole in door and jam - use secured accordion plastic tube to shield the wire.

I was thinking about spring loaded contacts so I'm only making 4 small holes versus 2 big holes.

The problem there is FJ40 doors are dogsh*t and they don't sit that solidly on the hinges and striker.

Also, no speaker when the door is open. Not the end of the world, but some times it's nice having the tunes on while doing something outside of the vehicle.

Someone did this and sells a dash pad. When I get back, see if I can find the link

I saw a cool speaker system for the roll bar. Pioneer I think.

I like the idea of not doors or side member/roof and still have something. … like the rear speaker housing you made. Will always be there topless or not.

The clatter of a solid lifter can, the thump, thump, thump of low RPM 6 cylinders popping into a 2 inch pipe, the screaming of straight tooth gears under my butt, the whistling of air leaking around the door gaskets, the rum, rum, rum from the drive train harmonics…..is music to my ears. Who needs a radio when you have a cornucopia of sound inside of a tin box……the noise is part of the FJ40 experience, be one with the noise.

I have posted this before... I wanted to keep the stock look for Louie so I have the original radio installed however I did want music. My son and I built the cooler music box together using inventory that I had in the garage. It was a fun project to do with him. It plugs into the truck using a SAE connector so I can remove it, if I need the space. It is also locked to the truck using a chain so it doesn't go for a walk when I park the truck unattended. Added bonus is that I use the top part of the cooler for storage.

The cooler is from the early 90s and the 6x9s are from my Dad's old 82 Cutlass. We took out the aftermarket stereo before we sold it. I still have the Pioneer Cassette Deck in inventory. :)

I installed the fiber backed heat mat to manage the heat and noise under the rubber mats. It did make a difference.

That is so cool, the ice chest, very creative…..I hope you saved room inside for at least a 6 pack and a few ice cubes.🤣🤣🤣

This is what i did and it works great for less than $200

Cool concept… I have an AM radio currently in that dash. I have not listened to am radio since they killed WCBS 880AM newsradio 88. That creates another option for connection to modern electronics…I’m thinking most of us are overloaded with.

are speakers wired to the Bluetooth device so you only connect the “player”…phone or some wireless source?

Yes, the bluetooth player/amp is built into the 3D printed radio delete panel thingy. You hard wire the bluetooth player to the RADIO fuse, and the speakers are wired to the player. Works great!

Well, I’ve decided to buy one…. I guess tax and shipping from Portugal brings the total to $132.00

I hope I’m not adding a European IMPORT TARRIF!!🙄

Another nice option would be a remote switch that could mount in the dash instead of the faceplate… I have an extra hole there
