First post here. Wanted to share my new cheap but awesome sound system set up in my 40…
Here are my components:
-Radio delete Bluetooth player - $108 but often on sale for cheaper ((https://www.etsy.com/listing/1532948446/?ref=share_ios_native_control)
-Pair of Pyle weather proof outdoor speakers - $64 (Amazon.com - https://a.co/d/i19u89a)
-Rare earth magnets to hold speakers to wheel well - $7 (Amazon.com - https://a.co/d/cJOTuzE)
The speakers come with wires, but I used nicer grade speaker wire (optional).
The speakers fit perfectly under the rear jump seats, and the rare earth magnets are strong enough to keep the speakers in place without the need to drill into the tub. The speakers are weather proof so you don’t have to worry about being caught in the rain if you remove the top.
The Etsy seller of the radio delete Bluetooth thing custom 3D prints each one, and he can make it to whatever size you need. So if your truck’s dash was chopped to accommodate a no longer working aftermarket radio from the 80s like mine, the plate will cover the hole.
Note about wiring: You want to wire the Bluetooth player to a hot on a switch (only hot when the truck is running or when the key is in the ACC position) so you won’t drain the battery if you leave it on when the truck is not running. Safe bet is to wire it to the RADIO fuse. For my 1978, it was the lowest fuse in the box, but check your year fuse box to be sure.
I ran the speaker wire under the front mat, under the center console, under the rear heater, then under the rear mat to the speakers (I have a thing about not seeing wires). If you don’t have a rear mat, you may need to work on wire management with magnetic wire clips or zip ties.
Is it Dolby atmos quality sound? No. It is kick ass for less than $200? YES!
It’s one of my favorite additions to the 40 so far.
