Unless I'm missing something, I thought it was worth way more, closer to what you paid. Then again, you're in the PNW like me, where these FJ40s may be worth more. I dunno.
I think you got a good deal. Is that the stock radio in the first set of pictures? If so, and it still works, it's probably a few hundred bucks by itself.

I almost typed, "sorry for being MIA," but I'm not. I've been out scrubbing on my new truck until way too late each of the last two nights and having an absolute blast. Still looking a little crusty, but it's coming along. More pics to follow, but it's looking like a better and better place to start the more I clean.
Most of the crust on the frame appears to be spraying right off, revealing smooth, black paint underneath. It got too dark to get out the pressure washer, so as soon as I can get it running enough to move in and out of the garage without a 45 minute session with a come-along, I'll really go to town underneath and see what I'm working with there, but so far, so good.
The paint is pretty bad (rock chips, ground-in filth, oxidation, etc.), but some cheap rubbing compound and a bare minimum of effort made a huge difference. Total back burner once I get things cleaned up enough to work on it and wash away the smell of mildew and mouse feces, but I should be able to shine it up and still retain the patina of a classic, old land cruiser.
Interior looks great. A couple rough spots on the DS floorboard, but no holes. Should be able to save it. The back deck looks great, but has been buffed down to bare metal in spots from 20 years of farm use. Need to seal that up soon, I'm guessing.
Otherwise, it's been a lot of fun. Pics to follow, but we're going to have a bunch of family in town for a wedding, so I might have to help clean something other than my new 40, or I'm going to be sleeping in it. Actually, that sounds kind of fun.

Regarding your Aisan carb, pin_head has a basic how-to on youtube. I would look for a rebuild kit with a leather plunger.
If you do opt to pull your carb apart to clean it. Scratch a mark in your primary booster. Both boosters in a 74 Aisan are single ring and sometimes have the same casting number. Not positive, but I think the flow rates might be different. If you blow air through the top hole you will hear the difference.
Also write down your jet sizes. With primary/secondary jets removed, you can thread M5-.08 screws in to isolate passages. I think that helps blow things out better. Secondary slow jet gets fuel directly from a tiny fuel bowl passage, blow that sucker out good. The power valve hole also can plugged with a button head M6 screw. I forget the pitch but I think it's 1.0. Wetsand the power valve and its passage to silky smooth. I end up with 3000 grit.
The ultimate scenario would be to send your carb off to 65swb45 of Marks Offroad or FJ40Jim of TLC Performance. They could add a ported vacuum port on the passenger side of your carb. This will allow you to run a vacuum advance distributor. Yours may be the OEM which was vacuum retard. I've read FJ40Jim say it's best to cap off the retard dissy vac port and just run off mechanical advance and set timing to 10 degree's btdc.

Thanks for the carb tips. Already sent TLC Performance an email about the carb. I've rebuilt several carbs over the years, and really like it, but we'll see. This has been sitting for so long and the state of a couple things under the hood and stories I got from the PO lead me to believe the original owner might have swapped things around a bit. Might be good to have the pros look at it and make sure everything is tip-top.

Yeah, FJ40Jim or 65swb45 would know exactly what's missing or been tweaked. And they have hard to find replacement parts. Coolerman has a microphice that I've found really helpful.

I like how he goes on and on about the Austin and there's a beautiful original 40 in awesome shape sitting right there. It's about a '74? Not sure when the grill lettering changed, but it has rear rectangular lights, roll bar, older front doors, and no barn doors.

Great find, looks very complete. I have a new ring and pinion rebuild kit for that diff I can sell you and I'm just on the other side of town. Also have various old pieces off the 1974 fj40 i'm currently working on lying around, new parts for your distributor I don't need, if you need anything. I'm restoring a 74 to stock.
