Builds FJ40 in a barn (3 Viewers)

To me, this is a humorous thread. I know exactly where the original poster is coming from and what he is looking for. I give him credit for actively pursuing his dream. And it's not owning a bone stocker. I have been wanting an FJ40 for close to 35 years now and I finally fulfilled my dream 2 months ago. I grew up in the backseat of my Dad's Chevota 40 hitting all of the great trails and playdays as he was a member of a 4wd club. He had one of the very first SBC FJ's around in 1970. Well he sold that wonderful rig in in the 80's and I have wanted one ever since. I found myself a 95% percent rust free and straight 75 FJ with a very clean SBC 350 swap, Saginaw steering, ARB lockers, rear disc with full floaters and Warn hubs on all 4 corners sitting on new 33's. Very close to MY IDEA of the perfect FJ. I am swapping the stock lowback seats for roll cage mounted Corbeau's. I would love to put it on 35's but kinda hard to spend money on tires when there are 5 brand new Toyo Mudders sitting on brand new Rancho slight lift springs. My plans are to be a daily driver in the summer as well as some mild trail 4 wheeling. I don't want to bang it up, just have some fun. My original plans were to give it a coat of paint because I wasn't fond of the mustard yellow, but ol' Colonel Mustard is growing on me and will probably stay shiny original.

So give this guy a break and help him pursue his dreams. There is a place for all 40's here, whether original, restored, stock, modded or cut up. They are just plain cool.

Waiting to here if the red one has a new home......

It's home! We started at $5,000, I offered $3,000, and we ended up right in the middle at $4,000. I tried to get more to my side of the middle, but it's hard to poker face when you show up over an hour from home with five guys and a big flatbed trailer. He knew I was there to buy it.

He tried to change the deal when I got there by making it an all-or-nothing deal that included me taking another rusted out F engine that was lying in the dirt at the back of the barn, a spare rear axle, and a bunch of extra parts. I ended up taking the rear end, the original busted up hard top with three good windows, a busted up windshield frame, an intake manifold, a Holley carb and Downey adapter plate, and a couple boxes of random junk.

With the generous help of some new friends from the Cascade Cruisers (Thanks, Brian, Cody, and... damn. The other guy) we used my 100 to pull it out of the barn and up onto the trailer. Got it towed home, up the driveway, and used a come-along to pull it up the rest of the way into the garage. I cleaned it up a little just to get a little better look at it, but quickly ran out of daylight. I'm starving and tired and I have to be up in six hours to go to work, but I'd rather type this update than go to bed. Actually, I'd still like to be out in the new truck cleaning it up, but the shop vac is too loud for my sleeping daughter. The sacrifices we make as parents...

Good to see you got it.

I laughed out loud at this. I can't tell you how often I have to come inside and quit playing my truck because it'll keep my wife or the kids up... =)

Congrats ! Have lots of fun, welcome to the madness !

Sweet purchase! The seller may have been in shock when you showed up with all the help you took. Looks like you had it covered and may of even had some sort of Engineer/Contractor with ya. (Dude in the red ATG shirt.)

Great start and welcome to the mudness/madness!

Fellow '74! Congratulations on a great looking truck. I am always amazed at the clean condition out west (compared to the midwest).

Unlike a Jeep or a boat, the best two days of ownership WON'T be 'the day you bought it and the day you sold it' - it'll be 'all the days in-between'. Enjoy!
