Just to update...
I started pulling the rear end out this weekend...
Right now Im just freeing up the housing so I can pull it...Nothing picture worthy unless there is something that someone wants to see!
Im waiting for a wiper seal kit so I can get the knuckles back together and the front end set up...I figured I had to do SOEMTHING in the mean time...
I wanna get this bitch up and rollin again!

Keith,
BTW: Permatex The Right Stuff worked great in place of traditional paper based gasket!

Kieth-this is nice work from what I've seen in this thread.
Can't wait to see it when done.
Keith,
Don't know anything about the 62 diff housings but it was, all around, easier when I did my 4.88 on my 100 to remove/reinstall the 3rd from the housing when the housing was off the rig. Otherwise it was a BFPITA to get the 3rd lined up, especially with the larger OD ring gear, and shoved in horizontally (when the housing was on the rig) than it was to just remove the housing from the rig...set it so the 3rd can be dropped (gravity is your friend this way) right down in without damaging the gasket or messing up the syn gasket.

I have to disagree with Dan here. I like Permatex, and "The Right Stuff" is thier best product. I would not omit the paper gasket. It does a good job sealing up the irregularities on the mating surfaces. I actually coat the papergasket with Permatex. The problem is that the housing can squirm, and will eventually ooze lube without the paper gasket. Also remember to torque the diff to housing nuts several times after the install to keep them tight.
Can't wait to see it when done.
Andy,
I thought about doing it that way...then gave in to easy. So far so good though with 12K. Do you let the Permatex dry to touch on the gasket or assemble wet? I have heard of doing it both ways.
