Just wanted to post up...
I JUST ordered my rims and tires and I got a SCREAMIN deal (I THINK).
BFG MT's 35x12.5x15
Rock Crawler rims, 15x 10, 2.5 in BS
Mounted, balanced, center caps, lugs and lug nuts
with shipping....

total: 996.72

They should be here a week from Monday!
I am SOOOO excited.

And, yesterday, I picked up my front diff that was re geard with 4.88's, and new rotors from NAPA!

Im off to the garage to start getting the front end set up!

I F*$%ED up BIG TIME!!!!
I went to bolt up my housing uder the rig, and found that my perches were OFF!!! I donno how it happened, or what I did, but they were. I got hasty to get everything set, so my friend could weld em up before I left to Chicago, and I f'd up.:crybaby:
So, I spent Sat, grinding the perches off, and re cutting the new one for the Pass side, and a better part of the day on Sunday, checking, re checking, and checking again, then I welded them MY SELF!
They fit good now!
Im such a dumb ass!:shotts:
Now Im trying to figure the best way to set the towers, tabs and to get that damn u bolt in...
Im held up till I know for sure what to do, as I dont wanna waste anymore time with stupid mistakes.
Ill post up with pics when I get further along.

Hey Keith, here is a picture of what I was trying to explaine the other night. This is my rear axel shock mount.

Hope this helps.

I dont like those rear shock angles at all, but I am no expert? And the distance just looks really short?

I know the feeling on picking up the 4.88's I got mine last week, just waiting on the rest of my rebuild stuff for the front to come in so I can get everything back together. Are you sticking with stock brakes for now? I think I am going to go ahead and upgrade my calipers to 4runner's while I am doign it.

I was worried about the angle too. A guy who specilizes in offroad suspensions suggested I run with them "as is" to see how they work.
They seem to be doing okay so far.

Thanks for the pics Dan,
The rear you were explaining, was the one I was having a hard time understanding...That helps a great deal!
I was reading a post in the search threads, and someone mentioned, that as long as you have 4-5 in. exposed on the shaft at ride height, you should be good to go...Your set up i the rear looks like it fits that bill...and you cant much argue with the pic posted!

Thanks,

Chicago

Im DEFINATELY gonna have to go see Samco about a x member!!!
That is a SWEET job he did on yours!!!

Im gonna leave the brakes stock for now. Im gonna bracket the LSPV arm up to the tub and let her rip...
Besides, I just got new calipers last August...
I was planniing on donig a RDB conversion, but Im gonna have to hold off on that for the time being, as Im running out of time and MONEY.
How far are you into the project? Im finding some little snags along the way...

I'm not going SOA, just rebuilding front and rear axles and getting 4.88's and a lockright in the rear. I am still waiting on parts to finish up the front, weather here has been wet so I have not been messing with it. I shure would love a 2 car enclosed garage at this point! :)

As of now the rear axle seals, bearings and the third are back in. The front is still completely apart and partially cleaned. (I already have the gears trimmed for the pin to fit back in. I used a dremel with a sand paper end on it.) I need to go ahead and get the rear finished (lockright and diff cover) so that I can wrap up the front when the parts get here.

Feel free to ask me some questions....its my first time doing this stuff too..I dont have a FSM (shame shame) but I have a haynes manual and Mud, what else do I need. :)

As for the brakes, I am going to go with the loger soft line to the caliper and I think I am goin gto go with the 4runner calipers. Mine look rough and my brakes are a little spongy. (For $75 or so I cant really complain while I have them apart.)

he, he,
I started with my front end first...
Knowing me, I have to do things in an order, or Ill get LOST!
Yeah, Im about ONE step up from a chimp!!!

BTW, what are you going to do with your LSPV?
This seems to be a constant problem with the 62's...
As mentioned, Im just gonna crank it up to the tub and braket it up there some how...

I left mine alone when I did my 4" lift. Dunno what to do there??

You are doing a rear brace arm for your rear axle? (I cant remember the name of it right now)

Do you mean the anti wrap bar, sometimes called a traction bar?

IMHO it is not optional when doing a SOA. I ran without one for a few weeks while I was finishing up the SOA on my 40. The difference after I installed mine was incredible.

A track bar/ anti wrap bar...?
A B S O L U T E L Y!!!!!
Im actually loosing sleep thinking about this item in particular...
The biggest problem Im seeing, is how to mount the x member on the 62. Inside the frame rail on the PS, is LOADED with the brake lines...Im just not sure what the most effective way is to get that set, and keep the under side of the frame rail relatively "SNAG" free...Id also like to have a bolt up unit, which makes things MORE difficult!

Im curious to hear how your braking will be with a 4 in lift, and keeping the LSPV in the stock location. Ive read some threads on here about folks making brackets to raise the LSPV arm up off of the axel housing, using the stock mounts...As im to understand it, the LSPV is to raise up, with the amount of lift...so if youre going up 4 inches, the LSPV should raise up 4 in...

I have had my 4" lift on for almost a year now, I am just now rebuilding axles and swapping gears in.

My braking is spongy, but I dont know if it is from the LSPV. I never heard anythign about people changing them with OME lifts. Alcan isnt used much (or at least talked about much on here) and I did all the searching I could do when I put mine in and don tremember anythign on that. I have heard of peole doing something with it when they go SOA though. SO i dunno?????

I am talkign about the anti-wrap bar, thanks for the word :) A guy in my club was going w/out one and he broke his pinion b/c of it. No clue what to tell you there, maybe ask some people like Exiled and/or Wagoneer5 to take you a few pics of thier set-ups??? They seem to have great set-ups and have been running them through all kinds of stuff.

Had a GREAT week as far as Cruisers go.
I got my new MEATS, that Im extremely excited about, which also inspired me to quit being such a PUSSY and get to work insted of being so damn cautious!!!
Well, I went to NAPA and got the brake lines (22.5 in, frame to axel, PN 38009 and the longer axel to backing plate, PN 38881) which of course, didnt come in, but they gave me an alterantive which fits the threads at least.
I got my new rotors and hubs mounted with new studs.
I got my u bolt bent to attach...What I did here, was I marked the location that I wanted my bend to be at with the axel supported by a jack...I then held the u bolt in place and marked the location where I wanted my bend to be at, which was just above the housing on each side...(Paint pen have come in REALLY HANDY during this project)
I then stuck it in the pipe vice I have, lashed her down, got my trust 4 ft. 1 in pipe and bent em into position (with the nuts attached of course to save the threads). Worked great and I DID NOT heat the u bolt up...FYI!
I then mounted my steer stops up. To do this, I did a dry assembly of the knuckle, with the steer arms and bearings and lower plate and bearings and snugged them into position. This way, I was able to get a good idea as to where the steer stops needed to be. My original measurement before I cut them off was 1 in, in from the end of the housing and they sat about 1 1/4 in, out...I tacked em up and welded them in.
I cut my fender wells for the shock tower placement...
I was having issues with the PS, cuz the air cleaner housing (LOWER) bracket is dead in the way...I just bent it back so it will rest against the back of the tower...The upper mounts actually seem to hold the unit pretty stable. The DS fenderwell is easy to cut and clear, but center line over the axel placement will be very difficult to weld, as it is only about 3/4's of an inch away from the steering unit.
I plan to drill an tap, and bolt through the frame, then go back and weld the towers in. I havent figured this out yet...
Anyway, I plan to start the re assembly tomorrow, of the front end.

The brake line bracket on top of the pumpkin is SCARY CLOSE to the u bolt plate...Is this right? Have any of you had any problems with this, and or done soemthing different?
I ground down the side of the bracket, in hopes that it will stay clear, but Im worried about when the suspension cycles...

Take a look!
