During my FJ40 Rear bumper Build, I was welding and an ember caught a rag on fire about 10 feet away. I did not notice since I still had the helmet down. She picked up the rag and threw it in the trash can.

A few minutes later the trash can went up in flames.

gotcha.. I misread that as she melted a steel 55 gallon drum.

I don't disagree. This is as far forward as it goes before you have to move the steering box and have custom arms made as well as utilize a rear steer set up.

I'm going to run it for now. When the 35" are on there I will see how bad it rubs and handles. After SnT it may get moved more.

Ah yes, the highly technical way of figuring out the height of a seat or whatever. Start stacking whatever chunks of wood/metal till best fit

I'm sure Summit Racing has a seat locator for sale but this is how it's done in the real world.

I do the same thing. I will grab anything that I can stack till it looks good to me and start welding.

Dan, it's been a while since I checked in on your build........any you ARE moving right along! A couple of thoughts.

1. I have a good fiberglass cap that has a rotten rain gutter; you are welcome to it. Just have to give me a heads up to get it from my backyard to the shop.

2. I agree with pgbottle about moving the axle. If your only issue with moving it forward is the short pitman arm of the FJ60 steering box..........make it longer! I don't think you should plan on moving the axle again later. Just get it over with now.

In fact, I might consider moving the steering box itself a little further forward. It might help that left front shock that is currently aligned with the steering box.

3. If you're going with a custom fuel tank, why settle for 20 gallons?
That rig could be totally expedition worthy, and a 20 gallon tank would be a handicap.

Right now it is moved 3" foward. It is going to get a Mudrack SOA kit. The front perchs on his kit are adjustable so I can get another 1.5" or so out of it. I did not ahve the kit last weekend when time allowed. (Piss Poor Planning on my Part.)

My original intention was to use the stock FJ60 tank. Moving the crossmember back where it should be and it currently is foiled this plan. I could still mount it but I would have to remove it to get the shocks off.

The one pictured is a fuel tank that I had laying around. I have two of them so if I can figure out how to mount both of them I will be at 40gal.
