Really like to get excited about this, but my suspicions are I'm over a month away from rolling the 72 out of current OR.

Anyhow, from the Poser deal....

Man ... what I would give for those license plate lights. Your '72 should have the early single style right? You using these with that late tailgate or on the '76? Mine are bondoed and painted from the typical rust :( If they become surplus put my name on them!

Tucker

So this isn't the correct tailgate, eh?
I'd always heard they went to those in '73, maybe yours had some transitional pieces due to a late build date? Maybe that info is just wrong ... pretty sure Jason's '72 has the single. Anyway, those will work with your new gate and are what was there ... so run 'em! I'd be interested in the ones on there if not pitted ...

Tucker

interesting. My 72 is a single, I thought they switched in 74 to the 2 on the sides.

Yea, I'd run them. or, there is a nice single on ebay currently with glass if you want it proper

It's a blank slate, I believe (translated: I don't think there's any change in the tailgate for either orientation, but probably wrong).

Just unloaded the NOS fenders and tailgate from Poser.

Can't be certain, but tailgate may be from '78, so hope it'll work, hope I can go to a 72 tag light without much ado.

You sold the fenders?

No chance.

Just unloaded the heavy arse crate Poser's buddy built as a testament to the structural integrity of multiple layers of plywood when bonding with 45lbs of wood screws.

Listed as a 321lb pallet, yet I don't think the fenders and bare tailgate account for much more than 50 or 60lbs.

How funny! I read "Just unloaded the NOS fenders..." totally wrong!
In my defense, I stayed up way past my bedtime last night watching Buddy Guy and George Thorogood in concert at Red Rocks last night - wow!

Then got up early for work - ugh!

Questions folks.

I am assuming that the tailgate is for a 78, based on the Toyota dealers ticket in the tag light bag.

That said, if I assume the fenders are from a 78, too, do I have more surprises looming?

For a bubba like me, I'd be on the new one, but if you're committed to being stock, put it on the shelf, if 72's used the old style.

Once you get it in your mind strictly stock, then no debates.

I found something in the parts pig, today, you might want. I'll run out and get a picture of it.

I'm guessing it's a toolbag strap. Never seen one before and I cut out the brackets on mine. So, if you need this one, to make a new one, Ill send it out.

It's the knowing what is or isn't stock to begin with that is a hindrance, especially when acquiring NOS parts that ain't cheap....

I'll stack the rear gate and lights up on the same shelf as the very, very, very rare NOS coarse spline Aisin lockouts that were on a US dealers shelf, though produced for the Brazilian market...

Right next to the NOS standard bore F pistons and any host of other NOS goodies that it turns out, I don't need. :)

Along with enough fenders, clips, doors for three Pigs.

:)

I'll be glad when the metal work on the 72 is done, so I can liquidate some stock.

Every village has it's idiot and it takes the entire village to raise it.

Y'all are doing a so-so job at rearing this one.

(Edited: that's me claiming to be the idiot. Not a slam at anyone but myself, for the record. Hahaha)

Going to run the 71 parts Pig gate on the 72, since now know that the NOS gate, nor the current gate are correct.

At least the decisions are easier.....

Man - that's rough :frown: Put my name on those lights if you liquidate them. Maybe start a thread with pics of '72 tailgates? I swore '73 was when they went side to side ...

Tucker

Edit: did a google image search, saw many with the single and one with the dual. What is your build date?
