My intent.

On a crunch to get working hinges and door mechanisms to, I'm hoping, finish this stage of rust abatement.

Dropped (8) of the latches off at local plater today, him expressing concern over the main body being either pot metal or aluminum, since non-magnetic.

I explained that its been done before, but he stated he'd feel more comfortable trying one, first, before doing all.

Delancy, you got a good plater then. Smart to try one instead of ruining all of them. Most likely Pot metal.

Trivia! Do you all know what Pot metal is and how it was derived?

Scrap from the factory floor that melts at lower temps. At least, in relation to auto production. Think now it's an "alloy".

Guy was very thorough and even blasted one while I watched, to endure it didn't eat into the surface. These arrangements are "no paperwork" deals, otherwise it's five times the cost.

Delancy,

That's how my guy is, no paperwork, half price. What color of Cad. are you useing. Yellow or just plain. The company that does mine, does Military work and they want Olive Drab!

I've seen the plain ( silver ) and it looks good. I've found out the yellow color is soft and can scratch, but the Cadmium is still under it.

Delancy, correct. It could have all types of metal. Aluminum, brass, steel copper, stainless, beryllium ect. I actually believe but not positive Henry Ford.

Thanks Bob.:)

He showed me what he called "silver" but what I understand to be "clear". Saw several other pieces and hardware and it matched the closest to the one unpainted from the 71 part out thread a few months back.

Thinking about doing the two rear heater housings I have, too. Should be more durable than paint, I'd think.

Considering the color would be very similar, would silver CAD plating be advisable for these?

Have two complete heaters, both blasted and ready for self etching primer and color matched "Ash Grey Poly" paint, but since CAD seems to be a long term finish.....

Try it on one, see how you like it!

Should start a thread titled "Delancy's Daily Dumb Question".

Inlieu of, here's today's.

After discussing the AC components that may or may not remain on the 76, started thinking about the motor mount bracket I recalled seeing on this 72.

Is this for the compressor? Bottom left hand blue abnormality in pic?
