Man - that's rough :frown: Put my name on those lights if you liquidate them. Maybe start a thread with pics of '72 tailgates? I swore '73 was when they went side to side ...

Tucker

I gotta be honest here.

The whole title debacle on the 76 has put me in a funky mood that ain't conducive for problem pleasures, if that makes any sense.

Think the discovery of a later gate on the 72 fits in with Britt's assessment that she's been impacted on the rear above the rear bumper line, enough to crush the corners in.

AT LEAST, the 71 gate is correct and in correctable shape.

Noted on the lights, Tucker.

Going to inspect the 76 and 72s light housings before determining fate, since the 76 will maintain its gate that's in good condition, regardless.

Not on topic, but relevant.

Saw an eBay ad for "40/45/55 Gauge Cluster" show up without a picture, so emailed the seller to get the scoop.

Turns out it's 40/45, but during the inquisition, discovered seller to be in Al Ain and started chatting, him sending a pic of a Japanese sourced fire wagon, explaining that he had recently sold a 5.3L 40, but restoring a 45 and owned an 83 40.

This is just easier....

(Think he's saying the PP80 looks nice, since it was parked next to the rust bucket 72)

I replied, "Oklahoma. Probably a state you never ventured through".

To which he replied

"It was the only state I visited twice, having taken summer courses at OSU and University of Tulsa".

Hahaha.

Small world, eh?

Amazing how TLCs can shrink it even further.

Chris,

Took a picture of the tool bag strap. I like the old web strap look.

PM me your address and I'll get it out to you, next week.

I don't need it back.

Man, do I ever know how to pick 'em.

I hope that this Pig feels the love and reciprocates with many, many years of chit eating grin windshield time, because it may have been a scrapper to anyone else.

I never professed to be the the sharpest, but did feel I'd done my homework to an extent capable of completing the project, but this has become an expensive education, to say the least.

No less dissuaded and feel I made the right decision stepping it up a notch on the degree to which Britt's taking it, even though I didn't make the right choice on the Pig, initially.

Chris, I wouldn't say you didn't make the right choice. Just like anything going through a total resto there are always surprises. It may look like a GEM on the outside but once you start cutting it open that's when the s*** hits the fan. Even your 76 could be in rough shape once you start tearing into it. Enjoy the fact that you have a highly qualified individual (AND GREEN HAIR) working on the PIG. And keep in mind when its done how Proud you are going to be driving it around.

Thanks Bob.

I'm married to her, at this point, so it is what it is.

Lots of surprises, that I can chalk up to lack of knowledge, but keeping my eyes on the goal line.

Thanks for the reassurance!!

Pulled apart the frozen jack that I'd had glass blasted a while back.

Lesson 1: Don't blast anything before prepared to final coat. I did to weld a few holes up in the shroud and air cleaner assembly, then I primed those, temporarily, who h was counterproductive.

Anyhow, tore apart and wire brushed for what seemed like hours, chiseled chunks of 42 year old solidified grease out, degreased, scrubbed, degreased, wire brushed some more.

Didn't take a lot of pics, because it was a dirty job and boring, anyway, but....

Have no idea how much grease should've gone in, but I liberally applied to all.

So my problem, this now the third can I've had issues with this, first on the air cleaner I have for sale, then the heater housings, now the jack.

Using this....

For whatever reason, it balls up on the surface at varying times in a can.

I'm entirely to excited about this jack, of all things, to half ass it, so will blast again and be prepared to coat in whatever yellow Ige has suggested, but still would like to know if I'm using the wrong product, or what I'm doing wrong with the single stage primer.

Tore into rear heater motors. Had one working from camotubebender's part out that was cleaned. Everything looked good inside and cleaned up outside.

image-3890634700.jpg

One from the 71 was froze up and crusty. Cleaned out the best I could, since I see no way to remove from housing, and going to hope for the best.

It does spin, at least, with same resistance as the functioning and can actually see copper.

How do the brushes look?

They contact and the springs (assumed tensioner) appear to be functioning.

Anything beyond that that'd be prudent to check/perform?

It was layered with gunk and not spinning, so thinking this may be all there is to it, but honestly not satisfied with it and wont be until I plug it in.

Clean the armature, where the brushes ride. It gets a glaze on it. Make sure the brushes move freely and make good contact.

I've got to do the same on mine. I test fit the rear heater, under the Corbeau seat bracket, it doesn't fit. Need to modify it.

They're not, after inspecting closer with it oriented correctly.

Crappy pic.

First time tearing into one, so not sure what or where to source replacement brushes, or how to determine if commutator or armature is in need of anything beyond cleaning.

Not sure if a Radio Shack item, or more involved.

Might as well tear into all three motors and do at the same time, while I'm in there.

Have spent the weekend working, tinkering on jacks, motors, intakes, (between incessant phone calls), and searching for a seat solution for the 76 and not coming up with much that can mount on a full width bracket, clear the rear heater, and provide more DS space that what's currently afforded.

The heaters have to be there, since iconic to not only this period of LCs, but most all LCs after, but not finding much in an ABTS configuration mounted on individual frames, that'll clear the heater.

You have to admit, it's neat to see the inside of a pig. No wonder they rust out so bad.

I know the bill is adding up, but at least you'll have a really nice body to work with.

I feel sorry for the old man that runs into the back you at the parking lot! :)

Stay with it. Like they say, ( Enjoy The Journey )

"Bondo, and rust and rust....

In Dorothy voice.

That donor corner looks nice!

Tucker

As does the donor rear quarter, donor roof, donor cargo floor, donor fender lip, donor floor supports.....

Made a grave mistake when I thought it'd be noble to save the 71 coupled with a few major purchasing errors, namely all but the hood from Cruiser Corps and it's borderline sickening.

It'd have been so much easier to have corrected the rockers and floor pans on the 71 shell and swapped, used the 71 tailgate (which is correct) and inner and upper outer fenders, NOS lowers.

Would've wound up with an excellent shell and front clip, all for $500 (paid for parts Pig) and a few hundred to bobm, instead of the insurmountable amount that its grown to.

I actually caught myself trying to rationalize a reason that the 71 wouldn't have served all purposes and couldn't.
