How was the sound of the Pittman popping off the gear box? I hear when you gotta do it that way (on a bench) it makes a loud crack noise. Yes/no?
I separated mine while on the truck. Alternated blows of a sledge and a puller. Was actually pretty easy for this total novice... other than the fact I refused to take the tire off. ;) Stubborn bull.

And yeah your frame is freaking clean. Looks like you could eat off it!

A hearty pop, nothing astounding or alarming and i had the garage doors closed.

I do need to preface that the image i posted was prior to swapping out pitman pullers. That unit pictured is junk and bent. I used a beefed up version of that with bolts that keep the two arms tight against each other and even that wasn’t enough. I put the c clamp on as well to keep the arms tight and it popped right off.

You’re bold for leaving the tire on and hammering, sounds much tougher, especially being on the ground. Kudos for doing it that way!

Yeah I was gonna add, stubborn bull or moreso, ass. ;)
Lots of up and down from front of tire to rear but it really wasn’t too hard. The puller actually held the two together longer than I realized (I’d left the nut on).
I saw the method done on YouTube and a friend agreed it was an easy way to vibrate the Pittman off the tapered splines.
Your truck looks really nice. I imagine she must quite positively purr from all your extra special care.

Thanks! I really enjoy spending time in the garage. Sometimes i have to pick/choose as i have my harley and my friends bikes in my garage as well that need attention.

One day I’d love to do a body off resto. Until then she gets +20k miles a year.

New oem parts day!!!!

Bumper, caps and all hardware. Rear brace was a little rustier than i would have hoped but sanded down and hit with some epoxy to at least minimize.

Love the stance and really everything you have done with your rig. Just got mine on the road and now Im thinking about suspension.
If you were to do it over would you do it differently at all? Curious if you have tried to go up the grape vine with the stock gearing and the 33's.
How has it been going up grades with that setup? Love the proportions on your cruiser.

Funny you ask, I've ripped up the grapevine a few times, one of those being this past saturday (thanks mudslides, it was a 5 hour detour at midnight). With two people in the car, loaded down with gear, it's a 3rd gear pull but temp gauge doesn't move. I don't really mind it honestly, but H55 is next to drop the rpms down on the highway.

Suspension wise...Out of the box yes. Initially got a light/med kit from Kurt. Used 'A' springs in rear for an extra bump in height. The bump was super drastic so I did an AAL and 1.5" over front shackles. That leveled it out, so I suppose I would say go medium up front with A springs and extended shackles. My rear shackle angle is straight up and down still, even after 10k miles and flexing it a bunch with weight in back.

The OME shocks are not bad but i'm considering a switch to Bilsteins. I would like to soften the ride a bit since the shackles sit vertical.

Sister flew out to visit so we went up to Yosemite, across to Santa Cruz and south on the 1 through Big Sur and back home. Just a tick over 1,000 miles this weekend and she didn't skip a beat. Considering how she doesn't see close to zero temperatures ever, she fired right up with 3 pumps from ice cold, not sure if less is needed, but 3 was enough.

One day I will use a better camera than my phone...

So remind me again. are you running your regular gearing with the 33's ?
I'm considering selling my 33's and going with 31's

Thanks man, much appreciated.

Awesome truck. Just picked up a bone stock '86 FJ60 and I'd like to mimic the stance you have, i think its just right. Everyone around here thinks I'm weird for liking 10.50" BFG's over 12.50s. I put a set of 33x10.50 BFGs on my 1972 Chevy K10 that I restored and it just has that period correct look. Nice work!

Thanks! I really enjoy the 10.5s especially since they still fit over the stock wheels. My long term plans are hazy but I like the idea of SOA with beadlocks and 1HDT while retaining OE styling.

K10...wouldn't mind one of those as a bike hauler, I love the look of em. Pics? I see you're also in east hampton...I was out there about 2 years ago during the summer on a ride...it's gorgeous!

Yep, born & raised here. If you liked it when you were here in the summer, you should come check it out this time of year. A little desolate but man its nice without all those people around! I have a huge soft spot for the 67-72 4wd GM trucks, and thankfully I had the time and devotion to restore one between college and marriage...lol. My newfound FJ60 obsession comes from needing a "family friendly" 4wd truck that I can take on the beach with the wife, baby, and dog. The 4 of us just don't seem to fit comfortably in my standard cab F350... Anyway here's a pic of my '72, I still have it tucked in the garage but it doesnt get out much.

Awe man!
That thing is sweet!
I used too own a few 69' to 72 C10 and C 20. Pick ups!
I always wanted a 4x truck like that.
Very very nice!
