That is inspiration, pure and simple....must keep working, gotta be like the Rainman!
(Although my skills will never approach this level of quality!)

Cheers!!

I'm finally starting to let some of the extra parts go. I'm going to start a thread on classifieds but here's a quick look.

Most from a May /77 FJ40. Make me an offer...
A) Tire changing tools (one bent)
B) Rear marker lights. (Some over spray on the chrome. Very good otherwise)
C) Door pins (some wear)
D) Early 70's front marker lights. (Clean. New with a paint job)
E) Enunciator in good shape
F) Jack mount parts (surface rust)
G) Ambulance door latch. (Fairly good shape)
H) Charcoal canister. (No clue)
I) All 3 door handles. (80-90% good)
J) Windshield hinges. (very stiff. Good otherwise)
K) Complete steering setup from Gear box to right side tie rod end.

Getting closer... getting closer...

She's outside completely for the first time. Looks good in the setting sun. On the trailer ready for the ride to the muffler shop for a new exhaust system. I finally got some good reference for a spot.

One thing I wasn't expecting is since putting on the hardtop and doors with the new weatherstripping, I didn't expect the Cruiser to smell like a new car. But why not? New upholstery, new paint, new plastic... And then today, new leather. I put a new leather wheelskin on the steering wheel. I had one on the Zebranator and liked it. I also figured the new owners would adjust to it better from their nice rides.

Goodness gracious I miss Tennessee! Looks like heaven over there, not to mention the 40!

What slope will the engine have against a level (90deg) radiator, looks like the gap from the top to bottom of the radiator fan will be different, will you have to lean the top of the radiator towards the engine to keep the fan distance level all round?

I'd love the weather in San Diego but I'd miss Tennessee too... thanks!
What part of TN are you from?

The fan shroud takes care of that. It must be the angle of the shot and the lack of body parts. Everything is in the stock position. Engine always leans back. The radiator always stands straight up.

looks great! i contemplated doing the same thing when i removed the heat riser on tuckers but didnt want to go through the process of getting a reamer and tap. i actually welded up the holes since the bushings are steel. worked great on both trucks i've done so far. plus as im sure you know that heat treated cast iron is a bugger to tap.

Born and raised in Memphis.

One bright day in the middle of the night...

Oops.

Yesterday, I bit the bullet and trailered 2NDCHNC to the muffler shop after two friends made good references to them. Getting a fair amount of comments and stares at the truck, I got some help and we rolled the brakeless (for the time being) and powerless Cruiser off the trailer and into the shop. I handed the "special" flange to the man after showing the owner how it fit and handed them the hardware. I was right to think there would be no WAY they would have metric nuts and bolts there. At least not m10 x 1.25. So he begins work, slowly making his way out the back. Decent job except the welding is a little crappy. We get the Cruiser rolled onto my trailer straight off the lift. I'm about to strap it down when the man says, "Here's the bolt you gave me. It doesn't fit."

"Yes it does."
"No it doesn't. The holes don't line up."
"Yes. It does. You have the flange up side down."
"No I don't."
Yes!.. You do."

Now... They don't cut the flange off, he torched it off. So know the stack up when I put the collar and gasket in won't be there. I told the boss I wanted to go on record that after I got the truck started and there ends up being a leak at that union, I will be bringing it back and they will do it over with new parts. And yes, the flange costs $50 bucks. (You should've seen the eyes on that person when I said that.)

Not a very happy camper, I loaded it up and brought it home. It does have an exhaust system now, I can finish getting all the fuel and heater lines plumbed, and with any luck, I can get this pwahty started soon.

For those who will read this far down, do any of you know where I can get the damn exhaust collar that goes just above the down pipe gasket? How in the world did I miss that getting ready? I've never heard of needing it. Toyota Overstock is out and said it's been discontinued. Where is there a source? $OR doesn't either.

The only source for the collar was toyota. It is a non-failure part, so been discontinued. They are hard to find because inattentive exhaust shops (see above) lose it when replacing the front pipe.:meh:

Gee thanks, Jim. Not the news I was hoping for. This project lost it when the bone head PO took it all part and put a header on it. Poorly I might add. Not to mention the POS job the recommended muffler shop did. I will be replacing the down pipe when I get them to re-buy the flange. I have an "old" friend that is a professional at exhaust and saw this and about keeled over. The first three pieces should be one and any joints should be Male in front. This truck is too nice to leave all that alone.

I'm getting "burn-out" and am ready for this truck to be finished. Not to mention that I'm bringing the '32 home next week unfinished. Not too happy about that either.

Wow. What a sad post...

Okay guys, welcome the latest new Cruiser owner. Roger. (Don't really care but he may not want his last name out.) I know he trolls around on Mud from time to time. Maybe I can get him to join now. He would be a good plus for us. He'll be making a few changes on the 40 for his use on his farm. The 40 will make a great tool for a great job.

You broke the unwritten rule and showed his face!

Anyone have a photo of that missing exhaust collar? I'm curious to see if I have one on the exhaust header/down pipe that I got from TCSTARK.

In Detroit picking up the '32. I'll trailer it home tomorrow. It's got a lot more left than the Cruiser does but this is year 4...
When THIS is done, I won't miss the Cruiser any more.

Maybe I missed it somewhere along the thread, but what are you going to use for the floor mat? Is the original in good enough shape to throw it in there??

BTW, that looks to be a fun road project! (the '32!)

Cheers!

I bought a new insulator mat and rubber mat from CCOT but haven't installed them yet. Still need to finish all the heater hoses.
And the ignition which I'm no good at.
And the head liner. (Once I can drive it over there.)
AND the kicker of the day...

I got a call from Mrs. ______ , the true owner of this Land Cruiser saying, "When can I drive the Jeep?"
"You mean the Land Cruiser?"
"Yes. I need it a soon as possible. My truck has a blown header gasket or something that's estimated at $7000.00 to repair."
"Head gasket?"
"That's it"
Then I say, "Well there are a few things left but the ignition needs to be looked at by someone better than I am at it."
"Take it to ___ and get them to fix that and send me the bill."

(oh crap!)

I still need to fab the power steering bracket but I guess that can wait.
The driver seat is frozen in place and I haven't been able to break it free to adjust it. That will be a must for the Mrs.
I believe I found the Land Cruiser Lean problem. The front springs need to be swapped. + for -. Dammit!
And I just couldn't stand it any longer. The hood is on. Not sure if I will be able to adjust the entire body to get it to line up just right. There are a few issues in that department.
Oh. Gravity bleeding the brakes as I type.

$pector has an aftermarket collar, see page 46 of their catalog.
