I am another FJ40 owner that has the pleasure of butchered fenderwells with a plastic fender flare over the cut-out. After looking at the newest flares from bursabaju and some others I got to wondering if someone could fabricate a bolt on (or rivet) fender flare that looked like the original fender opening just a little wider? Thoughts? :steer:

If you could find a set of original flares and take a fibreglass mold of them, then cut and widened the mold, you could do it. It would probably be a bit of work to learn to fibreglass well, but it could be done. This has always been on my TO-DO list, but I keep changing the shape of my fender openings.

if you want something a little more robust, ratpuke has some pretty sweet flares on Agent Orange: IH8MUD Forum - View Single Post - Alaska Cruiser Trek 2010 I think I will be making these instead, and add some flat rubber to widen them to cover the extra width from my 60 series axles.

Fender Flares

Hi, Sir.

I think you can do it.
You could fabricate a bolt on (or rivet) fender flare that looked like the original fender opening just a little wider.

It just need a little experiences and a little skill to do it.
Probably, you can make it by your own.

When I make my custom fender flare, I am thinking of or trying to get a more muscle look Toyota Landcruiser 40 Series and make everyone or owner feels proud to put the fender flares.

I think, you can try to get one set of my custom fender flares.

I am doing this, not concern about money profit.
But I want to establish a better relationship with other members in Ih8mud.com.

Thank you.

I would like some that look like the original Cruiser fender openings that accomodate wider tires. Same profile as original only stick out as far as the standard bushwacker or others. An inexpensive fix for our PO'd cutouts.

I'm working with David to put together a GP because I liked what I saw and thought he did quality work.

There seemed to be an interest in the MUD community for the products and a void to be filled.

So despite what the military taught me...I raised my hand and volunteered! (LOL).

I'm not a retailer, wholesaler, commercial middle man or import/exporter.
Just a knucklehead with a desire to help out, saw a need and am trying to fill it.

There's no profit or benefit on my end other than the simple satisfaction of helping out a fellow mudder.

Whatever we can get them for and keep the shipping down, that's what they'll go for:beer:

If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the information.

can you give me any idea on what these will cost...ballpark. $200, $400, $600? I need to know if this is soemthing I want to pursue or not. I would also be interested in the following:

how do they install?

what material are they made?

how long have these been out? any problems like sun fading? brittleness?

any othger colors than black?

is the finish matt, shiny, dull?

can they be painted and if so with what?

if sometime down the road one breaks, what is the warranty?

how difficult will it be to get just one?

are they sold in pairs or all 4?

Most if not all of of the answers to your questions, can be found in this thread:

If that doesn't do it, PM the bursabaju and he'll be happy to answer them.
Remember, there's a time lapse so it may be a while before he gets back to you, but he will get back to you.

But check the thread first.

Iron Pig off road makes a really nice durable metal flares that are larger than most and have more coverage.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I don't necessarily need wider I am looking for a simple soultion to try and get a little closer to original look when my fenders have been cut out and had black plastic flares installed. I will most likely, for now, paint the flares to match the cruiser and someday hope to weld in new panels when I have a shop.

I have a set of the metal ones from IPOR. They are super beefy and do require you to fab them up for your application and cutoff what you do not need. There are some pics of them on my 40 in my buildup thread.

I followed this thread to the end and see that the project of importing these was never concluded. Does anyone has further information on getting these somewhere else?
Thanks

Hey mate,

Long story short, the guy that was making them is no longer doing it. I went through the process about 6 months ago trying to source more. Eventually found one new set (wasn't cheap) which I still have sitting here.

Ironically I have chosen to go in a different direction, but if anyone is interesting in producing them I have a set to use as a mould/template.

Cheers
