I had to push my axle mount forward a little more than that for the same reason. I have a passenger drop Dana 60 though, so the diff-cover is close to the axle mount.
I have had a couple of these catch-points during my project. At one point I had 4-linked 60 series axle under the back of the truck and it just didn't clear the frame, tub, tires etc. I had to work on something else for a while to clear my head...
