I would also suggest you get a better engine temp gauge where you know the temps the engine is running, rather than a range temp of hot vs. cold.

Is there one that looks retro or that it belongs in a 60?

Not that I'm aware of, as far as swapping something in that looks OEM.

In general people go to an aftermarket temp gauge like autometer or whatever other brand, and put that somewhere off the bottom of the dash or location of their choice. Search through the threads.... I put a autometer on mine, it sits in a little bracket down near the hood release cable. I had it there when I had the stock I-6 and have kept it with the V8. I understand you might want everything to look stock or appear that way, I don't recall seeing any options that work for that.....on the temp gauge business. You certainly can install something that is not glaring or too distributing to aesthetics, all based on one's perspective.

There is a big crew of LC guys over in MS, ask around. Have you checked out the clubhouse area on this board (see clubhouse link at the top of this page), hop over there to see the MS clubhouse area. I'm sure there are some guys in your general area or otherwise.... ask around there and maybe check out what others have done in person.

There are some write-ups on the board in general about adding an aftermarket engine temp gauge, and there are some options on the approach, both under the hood and on the dash as to install.

@HemiAlex posted an inexpensive easy to install digital temp gauge that I can't find right now... Maybe he remembers.

An aftermarket gauge (of any type) is a must in these vehicles as the stock unit is notoriously inaccurate and failure-prone.

Don't mean to nag, but how's that fix, coming, @Spook50 ? :p

Thanks. I’ve had it on for years and it works great. Really helps to put your mind at ease.

I would install it in the upper radiator hose this time, koso makes a larger barb fitting in metric

No worries. I'm still waiting for the new PCBs I ordered. Will have to order a small batch of the components to populate the boards too. Hoping to get the PCBs soon so I can populate a board and slap it in next time I have my dash apart to replace the speedo cable.

Here’s what I did since it’s so hot here in Phoenix. I have an infrared temp gun. You can buy them for $30 or so. On a super hot day here this past summer, my truck creeped up a bit past half way while sitting in my driveway with the A/C running. So I checked various spots with the temp gun so I can get an idea of what the actual engine temp is when I see the gauge at that spot in the future, since I don’t want an aftermarket gauge. At just under 3/4 on my factory gauge, the truck was approx 216-218F. Warm? Yes, alarming? No.
So now at this point I know that if I see the gauge in that spot, I know roughly what the engine temp is and can keep an eye on it.
Previously, I started to worry if it went a little past half way when it’s 115-117 out here. Turns out, a bit past half way on my gauge is actually around 200-205, which isn’t worrisome at all, so an IR gun is a cheap, accurate way to verify WTF is actually going on temp wise in your motor.
