ok, - finally had time to dedicate to it. Proved to myself that I should read how to not be a idiot for dummies. I had a ground wire hooked up to the starter.... the correct wire was floating around in the rats nest up in there. Figured this out after I looked at the spare starter cable I got with the other engine.

Now I need to hit some dinner, but when its over, I hope to hear this beast running. For those that put in a new filter, new injectors new everything, did it take a while for fuel to get up in there? Either that or my tdc dizzy stab is 180 off. It hesitates here and there and tries. ... i think i can... i think i can.

The black box I was referring to was under the glove box area... forgot to connect that, but I think you guys are referring to the fuseable links?

My dizzy had to be set at 11:00 Oclock, 1 OClock didn't work for me.

...if you have all the cables/fuseable links connected and it is still clicking (like in the video), then you might need to recharge your battery unless starter contacts are causing issue...I can't think of anything else.

It's always great to see another revived 1FZJ :D. Awesome job!

The fusible links are AM1, AM2 directly connected to the positive lug on the batt.

Given that you've tried to start it a few times, I'd say that your fuel system is properly pressurized. You could be 180° off if she doesn't want to start. I think you did make sure that 1) pulley is at TDC 0° AND 2) the #1 piston is at top AND 3) dizzy rotor is pointing to #1 spark plug wire.

Thanks! Yea, initially I had it at 1. Then I winged it moving it to maybe 9, then back to 11/12.... It runs!

Yes, I made sure of this.... Maybe I wasn't patient enough.

IT LIVES! However rpms at 2k (need to adjust that) and its smoking like a banshe!!! I started it up and I think all the external cleaner is burning off. Only ran it for a minute. Will do more tomorrow. Now we fine tune (as time permits). Thanks for all your help guys.

This morning, I got up an hour early and continuted to button up some things (interior). Its running a ton better now that I somewhat adjusted the timing and cruise control cable. Its now running at 2-800 rpms and sounds pretty good!

I'd say at this point we are just about done... really not much left but to drive it and enjoy it.

Here is probably the last video for this thread. Cheers

CONGRATS! You make quick work of such a project. I love the level of detail and cleaning you do.

yep.. all fixed. rtfm

Hey all, engine is running great but Takes some high revs to get the rig to move.

When I swapped in the engine, I put the 151,000 mile trans in there at the same time and Im' thinking that the trans may be bad but not sure.

1. Verified it has fluid.
2. Torque converter is also from that spare engine / trans I had

Again, when reving at high rpms it starts to kindof move, but it feels like its slipping.

Tempted to pull the trans and swap the known good one back in but thinking I could be missing something here.

Open to any suggestions and willing to learn from the pros.

thanks in advance!

let the car idle up to temp then check fluid level in the trans, if its low it will take higher revs to get the rig to move. top it up slowly then you should be go to go.

Transfer case is not in N is it?

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

The hint he gave us " it starts to move"....tcase in N= no move!

If it was 1/2 way in, there'd be heinous grinding sounds!

Same behavior in D, R, 2, & 1?
