Do you daily your “built” 100?

I do just because my garage situation doesn't support another car. Next house will have an extra spot and I plan on buying something for fun for "daily" road use.

What are you thinking? I've been eying a GR86 to be a fun, economical DD and to keep excess wear off the 100.

So many options out there. I'm all over the map. The market is nuts right now so anything not super special seems like too much $$. Depreciation is going to hit like a freight train on most "normal" cars in the next 5 years so I can't see myself buying anything normal anytime soon.

I like a lot of the new electric stuff coming out, but I also feel like now's my chance to have some of the ridiculous gasoline motors. I wouldn't put many miles on whatever I got so gas mileage is not on my radar. I love the idea of a ten 10 year old S65. Twin Turbo V12 with more legroom for my child-seats than the LX. Also love the idea of a manual mid-engine exotic. Ask me again in 2 months and I'll probably be looking at something totally different so who knows. Given our unknown upcoming move and wildly variable income in 2022/2023 I might just focus on keeping the LX on the road. :p

Who here daily drives their 100 that’s modified?

I drive mine 500+ miles a week on average. Really should be driving something really economical.

2000 with 195k now. 33s, all the mods but lockers. Fridge/ drawers, roof tent/ awning, etc etc.

12mpg average

I ended up buying a new camry hybrid because it was cheaper than DDing the 100. haha. Gas is almost $6 here in Cali.

Daily mine on 35s

But it is also cheaper to not buy the Camry than to buy the Camry. How long will you have to drive the Camry to pay for the savings in gas due to not driving the hundy even though the cost of the Camry would pay for the gas not used in the hundy due to driving the Camry. ? 🤓

35-12.5? Regear? Mpg?

Tires:
Yes, 35x12.5r17

Gears:
No on the re-gear.
Long answer:
I’ve lived in the Adirondacks and now in the Poconos and just can’t justify the cost / gain / need (even with the 4.10 5spd).

*I have driven a nearly identical build with 4.88s and it wasn’t a drastic difference to me. I also didn’t think the 06-07 vvti was noticeably more powerful than the 03-05. I DO THINK the 98-02 with 4.30 gears accelerate great on inclines but I don’t love them at 80mph on the highway.

When I lived in UT and had a rig on 35s then yes I needed them in a 6cyl Jeep and was running 4.56s

Mpg:
Pretty consistent at 12 mpg - lots of highway and at 75 mph the rpms are just over 2k. No I don’t adjust / account the mpg and oversized tires so it might be better

But who cares. Love this truck. It’s reliable, fun, safe.

Btw your truck looks great!

This. I travel for work and receive the IRS mileage rate for travel and just have enterprise drop a full-size sedan at the office before work trips. The $240 a week rental fee is almost offset by the difference between my 100's 12mpg vs the 32-40mpg of the rental cars. Plus, I'm not racking up tons of miles on cruiser.

DD it the 4 miles to the office each day.

Thanks! My next tires will be 35s, I just want to stay at the same “power level” as with my 33s. If I can maintain my 12mpg that would be nice too.

Side note. 200 mile round trip this morning to get this little guy. Storage space just quadrupled

That’s an awesome find

I’ve been searching for a trailer as well.

Everything in this area needs more $ in work to make it Road worthy than the price of the trailer Itself

$450 brought it home. Very solid minus where someone cut the back panel out. But I want a tailgate anyway so no biggie.

Define “built”…

Two 100 series DD in my family. If I feel like something different, I drive the “other” (3rd) 100 series…

I had a little 550hp sports car, that got much better fuel economy, but I kept jumping in a 100 series, so I sold the sports car.

Now you’re cooking with gas. I guess your 12 step program is to your other hundy. One of mine is about 20 and one about 15 steps. Of course my wife is on an 8 step program.

IMO, for the purpose of the question, I would say 'built' would include at least lift/tires and some armor. Stuff that isn't really beneficial at all for daily around-town driving, or could even make it worse (extra weight, decreased braking/acceleration, getting into the hatch with a swingout bumper, etc).

What little sports car did you sell? I've been fending off the itch for a fast car for a while now but I'm starting to get a rash.

I guess I did learn something from daily driving a “built” 80 series for ~10 years, and having a small child for 6 of those years. I don’t think I ever want a rear swing out bumper, on a DD ever again. By your definition of “built”, I believe all three of mine qualify, but definitely on the milder side of “built”.

A mildly modified C6 Z06 Corvette. A fun little toy, that scratched the performance itch just fine, but not really a great DD.

One of mine is in the shop right now, leaving some “extra space” in the driveway. For some odd reason I find myself looking at LC/LX classified ads whenever that happens.

Absolutely!

My built 100 mostly stays in the garage on a battery changer. I drive it to my office a couple times a week which is 9 minutes away. I save it for trips and adventures. Daily/family vehicle is a 2005 4Runner. If I commuted remotely far I would have a Tesla.

I daily mine; but I have a pretty short commute at 14 miles round trip.
