@OGBeno I was looking at that elevation profile and it reminded me of a ride I did once years ago and want to do again … you’ll know exactly what it is.

Downtown Boulder, up Boulder Canyon, Fourmile Canyon Road up through Wall Street, to Gold Run Road, and finally to Gold Hill for lunch. Then back down Lefthand Canton to Old Stage Road, back to Boulder. It was something like 3000’ of elevation gain in 13 or 14 miles. Brutal. My legs were jelly for days afterwards. I was riding a Long Haul Trucker with 26” wheels that I used to have.

Here’s a photo of it on the Chapman Drive trail between Boulder Canyon and Flagstaff Road. Circa 2011 or 2012 maybe. Top tube painted because it got a dent and I had a frame builder pull it out.

Salvagetti water bottle on there. Not sure if you remember that long-closed shop in Denver. One of the first around to offer adventure bikes and bags.

Another metric in the books.
Haven't ridden in this much wind in a while though . . .
20+ mph for the first 45 or so.
We road it to commemorate a rider who struggled with mental illness and took his life a couple years ago.
No one knew.

My condolences. Life lost regardless is never good.

I hope you all had a great pedal in commemoration.

@OGBeno We’ll talk in Poncha Springs, I’ll be there Monday - Thursday morning. I don’t have those legs anymore but I’m willing to give it a shot if you don’t mind watching me spin it out on the granny ring.

@SmoothLC Sorry to hear that. Good on you all for doing that ride in their honor.

This one hits close to home. No one ever knows.

New Frame Day yesterday...

Looked at the Brother Cycles Big Bro when I dropped wife and daughter off at the airport, and then whilst they were away, I bit the bullet and got the frame.

Picked it up yesterday after picking them up from the airport, had the good car (Spaceship as a mate calls it) rather than a Land Cruiser so space was a bit tight with 2x 60 litre packs, my over night bag + 2 hand luggage + stroller frame.... Volvo wagons still swallow more than you'd expect, but not as much as they did once a upon a time - I know I used to be able fit my frame and fork under the load cover on a Volvo V70 (first or 2nd generation)

Bits are slowly arriving; front wheel has arrived, rear is due tomorrow... and then I've just got to order the other bits and pieces I need. Off to Brisbane next weekend, so I can get some more bits and pieces when I'm there as there is one of the big shops there, and that saves me waiting on postage!

Still a couple of bits to decide which I need advice on:
  • 30 vs 32 vs 34 tooth for a Shimano 1x12 drivetrain (10-51 cassette)
  • New style shifter mounts or the old school shifter and brakes mounted seperately - ie this option with the I-Spec EV or the traditional? Both work with the planned brake lever

Very, very sorry about your rider friend, @SmoothLC

Hate to continue with the morbidity, but on a ride this week, I stopped in a park to take a break and just kinda reset. Found this bench, which almost brought me to tears. Aunt Shirley, Aunt Bates, LauraP, and all the others who succumbed to this illness - I miss you, and wish there was any way I could have helped.

Well, this was the result of my last ride… Doh! Honestly surprised that this hasn’t happened sooner after 45+ years and thousands of miles on bicycles, motorcycles etc. Going for surgery next week… Skin and bones heal, Campagnolo doesn’t

I popped my left collarbone early September last year. Took me about 20 years of MTB and an aggressive season of lift served downhill to finally crash hard enough. Felt way better after getting it bolted back together and waltzed into my two week post-op with no sling. Was back on the bike (nothing insane) late Nov/early Dec. It'll be a speedy recovery for sure!

had a nice tail wind to go with the opposite way i’ve ridden my recent route. instead of riding from the city home i rode from home to the city. 30km this ride with an avg of 27km /hr. down the stretch i’ve averaged 20 km/hr into the head wind i was doing 34 with the tail wind. it felt like cheating!! beautiful ride!! combo road gravel trail!!

No ride yesterday, lots of storms rolling through. Instead, I visited a friend with headset tools to start getting my new frame together.

Nice little Porsche 912. He paid a guy $50 and dragged it out of a field 30 years ago, then proceeded to rebuild it himself from the ground up with zero auto mechanic knowledge. Here’s a photo of a cycling adventure he did in Bolivia:

I figured bikes plus 70 Series was relevant.

Next thing you'll tell us is that you're just gonna take the lift to the top 😂
