This one is actually a '65. You can tell by the air intake for the heater, and by the Toyota and 4x4 badges on the rear drivers side corner...a '64 should have had the square TOYOTA sticker below the drivers side barn door...see below.

Did the '63's have the ribbed seats?

Hmmm...

a '62...no ribs.
another '62 or '63 no ribs
a '63 FJ45...no ribs (even though it looks like the drivers seat was redone with ribs, the passenger seats still looks stock)

'64 ribbed
Treeroot '64 ribbed
'65 ribbed

...so it seems the switch was in '63 some time.
Hmmm....now I need to find some clear '63 lit :hhmm:

My seats really do look like the '62 and '63 smooth seats, which would make sense seeing as my '64 seemed to have been manufactured in fall '63.

Destin...have you ever tried to narrow down when your '64 was made?

I believe that first white FJ40 is actually a early '61... note the double arm jump seats, intake vent on the apron, and the FJ25 front bumper.

and for what it is worth both of my '62's were ribless

from what i see in the literature..it was ribbed seating for a more pleasurable ride in 64 :meh: ...unless you are overstock 63 sold in 64...i forgot yours was a 63 sold in 64 dean

i thought i had a lit from 63 showing ribbed seats...but...its not at work...i'll try home some time :)

I think yours are recovered. Look at the thickness of the old flat vs ribbed.
Mine was made in late 63 for a 64 model.

I guess I'll only know when I take the seats apart...either way it's interesting.

I looked in my folders, and I could not find a good picture of a 1963 front seat...other than the '63 FJ45 I posted earlier.

Wes, If I remember correctly, my '64 is older than yours by at least a couple hundred units or so...

I don't think it matters. The early style with no stitching has a different style seat frame than the later style. IMHO looking at yours you have the later style seat frame.

You are probably correct...just interesting is all.

Can't wait to see Shane's new skins on Destin's rig...it's going to look great!

man these seats are gonna be sweet!

So my plan is to finish all the wiring today ( and clip up all the wiring etc )
You all think it is a bad idea to pop the battery in and just turn the key to power and check all the lights etc?

That would be right. That's how I know my last 40 is not a 62 as titled be a 61. Don't forget the large gas cap.

The tool box changed shape with the 64 model also with the seat frame. The drivers more then the passenger's. With 64 model you no longer had to loosen nuts to adjust the seat.
I have a pair of 64 front seats I know there are red but not sure if they are still original or not. Can't even remember if they were ribbed, but I think not:meh:
