but can't justify it...

Me, either.

The more I look at the roof, the more I wonder if it'd be better to pop up the dent from inside and attempt to correct the seams that are pulled on.

Going to see if Britt can look at and offer a professional opinion, then talk to Mike at Cruiser Corps about the roof from henry morgan's 77 from OKC.

I bet it would be quicker/cheaper (just how I like my wimmins) to cut holes in the 76 grille...

I can take pics of the holes in the '69 grille I got if that would help?

I scored a good deal on a '69 grille awhile back and don't recall there being much to the cutouts, so may pull the side marker lights of some in the fender stash and see what kind of cut makes sense.

Don't know how to rig an old light for running and signal functions, but surely there's a way, considering how many "600RWHP" tagged camaros I see parked, with crazy lights and halos.

If you have a pic, that'd be great. I don't have any of that 69 grille.

Delancy, google it you will find it. Don't cut any Grille they have plastic pop-outs any way. I know mine melted in powder coat oven. As far as wiring. LAMBCRUSHER is more than willing to HELP.

Thanks Bob.

I didn't realize he'd axed the rear vents and reflectors.

Blasphemous, I'm sure, but had considered cutting out the reflector raise and recessing the reverse lights, of course, saving that corner for a true resto'd Pig.

The fenders I bought from CC have the side markers and smaller fender signals, so assuming the grille I thought I was getting with it, is still around there.

ANYHOW...

Was hoping for a pic of the cut out, but the following eludes to being unnecessary.

Huh? Do tell, fine sir.

I have no clue how to replate chrome, but assuming this is chrome....

Ige stated the lights are handed in the 69 and they're not the same as the side markers.

The radiator support (??) has a depression as if lights were to mount in it, so wondering what markets did have, and want type.

May see what the 56 fire trucks had.

Have to find a light that fits and is dual function long before wiring it, but I'd think it'd be a matter of moving the fender mounted signals/rubbing light harness to the grille area.

Chris,

Here's a couple shots of a marker light and the grille light, that I got from Lambcrusher.

The lights are different and so is the wiring. The marker light has a wire coming off the spring base, like the grille light and it has a ground wire on the side of base, which the grille light doesn't have?

I stole the wire, that's on the grille light, from a marker light.

I'm worried about the rubber gasket. Mine are shot, so I'll be making something up.

Lambcrusher's grille cleaned up nice and I've been trying to get all the little dents, etc. out before powder coating.

Bulb housings have been blasted and Cad. plated. :)

Thanks, Ron.

Guess I'll be looking for another pink unicorn in a complete 69 grille with lights.

This entire affair was prompted by a desire to pull hood and fenders, repair, then prime in downtime, and reason I've jumped ahead in attempting to determine.

I don't know the legality concerning side market lighting, but had considered eliminating the front and rear side lights, moving combined signal and front markers to lower grille.

Had seen the combo headlights but thought they looked ghey, but happened upon these and has me thinking.

Since you can't tell the signal is there until illuminated.

Regardless, going to fix the holes in the tops of the fenders, since a light won't mount to anyway, and ponder further what the real goal is.

good course of action. wait till the solution presents itself; you have time.
Can't wait to see the restored grille, Ron. hope it wasn't too out of whack...

Lambcrusher,

I'm just being picky with it. I want it perfect, before powder coating.

It's got to look good, when I hit a shopping cart with it. :)

or backfilled with glass reinforced epoxy resin...they were made at a factory that also made tin foil...at least they used the heavy duty stuff

Delancy,
really like the color combo you chose along with the wheels. Just sets the pig off!

Nice job.

Nice job.

That's montyorpenn's Pig in the pics, the first a before and the last string the recently revealed finish, but it is a good looking Pig....as the look 5 billion times better when they're closer to done than I am.

OE wheels with OE caps and appears to be KM2s on montyorpenn's depicted, which I chose for the 72.

The to be Freeborn Red 76 will keep the aftermarkets it came with, cause I think they're kind of cool, but may opt for ATs.

image-533492060.jpg

I may even keep the white roof.

now thats a great color! however I think I am a little biased based on the color of my piggy. The red roof looks great IMHO.

I'd like to get some steelies and put the dome center caps on. Think it would really make my pig stand out. however I have a bunch of money spent on trim, bits, tune up, and then i have to re-do the interior so think the wheels I have will need to wait till the CFO releases more money. ;)

I agree, but being in OK I can attest to the difference in cabin temps between white roofs and any color.

Between the FJC, PP80, and utility Ford trucks, convinced that Toyota was on to something with the coloration chosen for the 40s.

Plus, I've not found any indications that mine wasn't white to begin with, but it'll be some time before this 76 sees paint, so anything is possible.

You scored a nice Pig and I have to commend the rite of passage you completed....that I haven't, yet.

I'd like to get some steelies and put the dome center caps on.

A note on this.

I bought OE replacement steelies for the 72 at a local LC shop, knowing I was paying a bit more, but never actually comparing to dealer price.

It is substantially cheaper to buy from Toyota and, as always, I suggest beno to source considering the freight charges are typically inline with our local sales tax on big ticket items.

Another local bought for $88.52+ tax from local dealer, where we all receive a "club" discount, which is a fair amount less than listed, but still more than ordering from beno, as far as I know.

Delancy,
whats the toyota item number and do you know if the OEM hubcaps like the green one will fit or do I need to get hubcap tabs and weld on?

also what size KM2's are those? Love the look!

just wanting to plan ahead and dream about the shoes I want to put on sandy.

I'm uncertain the part number on the wheels, but the same that are commonly found on eBay and vendors pages that have the clips for the caps already.

The tires are 33x10.50 KM2s, as I'm a big fan of, but honestly purchased for looks on the Pigs because they may rarely see a dirt road. That said, I've ran KM2s on the FJC for 70k and they've still tread to go, so not a bad road tire. The biggest detraction being road noise.

Now you have scrap daddy's pic of the grille cut out to contemplate. Those cuts on the '69 grille will accommodate the orig '69 grille marker lights, or the side marker lights.

You heard Ige right, the orig marker lights are R and L sided, while the side marker lights are ambidextrous.

Some grilles had 2 little plastic pieces of trim in the area where the cut out is pictured. His powder coater should have caught that if he didn't.

As you found in the classifieds, I am contemplating getting the orig grille marker lenses reproduced.

Pablo,

I don't know what's all involved with getting this done, but I'll be first on the list.

Can the manufacturer reproduce both the lense and gasket?

For the gasket, I ended up buying some neoprene rubber and cutting my own for my late tailights since the gaskets were unobtanium. It has come in real handy and I've used it in several places since, you can pick it up here for ~$20 ;). I just cut it with an exacto knife (having the old as a template helps) -

HTH!
