This phenomenon is universal to all EVs, not just the Rivian. People go into the EV ownership experience expecting there to be no compromises or changes in habit. Within a few months, reality hits them that you can't use it quite the same way you've used all your past vehicles, and off to the dealership they go.
Not sure about that. Everyone I know that has swapped an EV in the first 2-3 years has done it for another EV.

I find my EVs to be much more convenient to own and drive than my gas cars. I have gotten to where I hate wasting the time it takes to put gas in my LX.

I did some math the other day and if I drove my LX570 all the miles I put on my model 3 in the last 6 years it would have cost me >$30k more, $45k more if I didn’t do my own service to drive the LX.
 
Yep, I've been DDing an EV in one form or another since 2015. Superior for my use case and many use cases, but that doesn't change the fact that some people go into it thinking they can use it just like any other car (i.e. trip to Grandma's two states away? sure, load up the car, let's go!).
 
It was a joke about the Bolt, Although the value ratio cannot be beat if you are looking for a cheap daily beater. Used bolts with new batteries as a result of the recall are dirt cheap.

But my original response to you was because you had mentioned the CT taking over towing duties and I just dont think thats reasonable. Even if the charging network gets vastly better, The fact that you can only get max 1.5 hours between charges with the current options is unacceptable. Its not a different stoke thing. If thats your intended use of the truck then the only real option is the Silverado EV due to just the shear size of the battery pack and its ability to exceed 200 miles of range towing(in ideal conditions).

Of course you then have to charge that ridiculously large pack so hopefully wherever you are towing has 350kw chargers on a regular interval.

Completely agreed on the towing point. It's not handling my 8k trailer for road trips. Not in its current trim and battery capacity. When (if?) they reach 500 mile range, I'll revisit this. Even then, it's not replacing the LX which might become a more focused adventure rig / off-roader / camper.

Interesting. This a Colorado thing? Every person I know here in Michigan who has purchased an EV (including me) has gone into ownership well informed about EV life and loves them. None have traded their EV and I suspect none ever will, even given the EV charging challenges here in the land of thundering pushrod gassers and monster oil burners.
 
A problem I keep hearing about Rivian are the repair costs and the time to repair them. They are significantly higher. This will probably drive insurance rates higher if they haven't done so already. I never priced one insurance wise so I can't confirm it.
 
A friend's ~6 month old R1T was totaled from what I'd consider really minor hail damage. This after a few months of waiting for a shop that could handle the work, which the adjusters were adamant was repairable at first, then another couple weeks for them to figure out it wasn't.

He replaced it with a new Tundra.. said the whole body shop and parts availability process precluded ever buying a rare vehicle again.

My brother (sales rep) gets a new company ford truck every 2 years. Last year they swapped out his F250 for a lightning. He knew nothing about EVs, one day his boss said come in and get your new truck. He hated the lightning for the first month or so, mostly because he wasn’t plugging it in every night. Now he loves it his wife has a model Y and he dosn’t ever want to go back to an ICE truck.

Our model 3 was hit by a rock slide 2 years ago. Took out the passenger side doors, hood, rear wheel, and rear quarter panel. It was at the body shop for 4 months. I wouldn’t own any of these relatively rare cars as my only vehicle.

A lot more, Tesla has Sold >800,000 in the US so far. That said new models of any car always have a long repair time. I bet it would be at least as long to get body panels for a LX600 as a Tesla or Rivian.
 
A really important difference here is toyota has much more experience building vehicles and supporting their parts networks in a way that actually gets product into the hands of people that need them.

Also with my friend's rivian a major factor was the aluminum body panels. This would apply to a modern F150 as well, but again, there are so many more on the road the parts and repair processes are much more widely distributed. Any guesses how difficult it'll be to repair a cybertruck after body damage?

Just go to a place that sells sheets of stainless steel. Cut to size and bolt or glue it on... Make sure you don't clean up any sharp edges too much as you don't want to lose the factory look and feel. :)

There is an owner in my hood. I have seen them driving it around several time. First, it is not a truck, second it is a fugly oversize hatchback.

Same goes for the F250-F450 as they are all aluminum as well.

GM is using aluminum for all the swinging parts(hood, doors, tailgate, maybe the roof.) on the silverado/sierras

To your point, the nose of the trailer on the CT is badly nose down. Which is further exacerbated at freeway speeds when the suspension lowers. They did a dirty to the CT creating way more trailer frontal area (drag) and creating the stability issues they were having.

It’s disappointing because they talked all about their fancy aluminum Weightsafe hitch for 5 minutes. I dont understand why they didn’t flip the shank.

There was a previous video showing that the shank didn't clear the plastics in the preferred orientation. They should have resolved that before making yet another video.
