The biggest variable that the engines will cost when they are commonly available.

It is far more than just an engine for $9000, there is no doubt about that.

Tor - any word on the kit yet? I am thinking of pulling the plug on a motor while the 15% off sale is happening.

Looks great. How many Benjamins for the H55 housing adaptor? 15% off from Cummins at the moment.

link to housing would be great, I know it is in here somewhere just way too lazy

Yeah I asked because initially TORFAB has posted (post 69):
"The kit from Torfab will include the following:
  1. engine mounts
  2. radiator relocation bracket
  3. intercooler and piping
  4. gas pedal bracket
  5. fan shroud
  6. lower radiator hose
  7. upper radiator hose
  8. oil filter bracket
  9. fuel filter bracket
  10. air intake tubing
  11. optional cold air box
  12. PCM bracket
  13. fuse box bracket
  14. grid relay bracket
  15. adapter kit to an H55f or an H42/H41
  16. optional adapter kit for a 4L60e
  17. coolant expansion tank
  18. coolant hoses and fittings/adapters
  19. custom exhaust downpipe?
I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing. The idea is to give you all the hard to find/figure out parts, so someone can install this in their 60 series with just regular fab/wiring skills, and mechanical skills."

So wasn't sure if they had figured out a BH adaptor or if it's to be purchased from Atlas or some other vendor....really on the fence for this swap. Just got my 2F running nicely, but it still struggles with a full load and even my small tent trailer....and that's just through the east coast "mountains"

Man this is exciting! I've been looking for a swap and I think I found it!
Is it California approved now? Last I heard it was 49 state approved and cummins were still wrangling with California. That was a while ago though.

to correct post #292, I have been talking at length with Tor about the kit and various parts and adapters... the 1900 does NOT include engine to tranny adapters. Those adapters cost upward of 3k from AA. There is a R2.8 to GM and then an H55 to GM bellhousing that needs to be purchased. Unless something has changed in the last week, that is what the engine to trans adapters are costing.

I am cutting my own adapter from the R2.8 to the H55 bellhousing, mating both of the flywheels at full weight and using Toyota clutch/pp assembly on the 2F flywheel. Can't justify the cost of the two separate 1500$ adapters from AA - didnt realize this was the case when I first bought the engine so now I have my machine shop cutting just the adapter to the bellhousing and the flywheel adapter.

Do you need both AA kits with "15. adapter kit to an H55f or an H42/H41" from Tor?

You need both AA kits to get the R2.8 to an H55 or H42. Axis Industries sells the exact same kit (engine to bellhousing) but provides more information. I am using stock FJ60 1983 4spd bellhousing on my H55, just had to grind a little bit on the inside of the bellhousing. If you are retaining OEM location of trans/tcase (no need to change) and using weld-in engine mounts then the R2.8 definitely has room to move forward in the engine bay by an adapter length (1") so I am not sure about some verbiage on the AA website about changing driveline lengths re: another similar FJ adapter kit.

edit: I think Tor left that 15. part on there from a larger more complete quote template for the engine swaps he performs at Torfab. I do not believe this is an additional part that Tor supplies in addition to the adapters.

So, I did the math, and while that is the adapter set required, you're gonna spend ~$700 less adapting an NV4500 to the R2.8 and split case than an H55, and if you don't already have the transmission you're going to use, there's a *lot* more availability of good used NV4500s than H55s, and a used NV4500 is maybe $900 vs. $2700ish for a new H55. Definitely something to think about, but this may not be a factor in a year or two when I, personally, might have the money for an R2.8.

I saw that about new drive shafts and trans/transfer location on the AA site and was wondering about it as well. I already have a H55 installed and I like it. I don't want to buy another tranny just to make the conversion easier.
