Yanmar sell the 1HD T and the 1HD FTE as boat engines and they get about 100 more HP out of them . You would have to look at Yanmars home page for accurate figures

Was on the fence for a bit about a new 4Runner. Beautiful trucks, right? Does everything a 60 can essentially. So I test drove one....

Did nothing for me. Give me my 60 any day! So solid! So capable! I fall in love every time I climb in. Of course having a 300 hp power plant under the hood helps a lot!
Back to the topic at hand... I Need this Cummins motor in my 40 for sure!

yeah I just heard this weekend that Cummins is planning on releasing a 4.5L version of this... Sure that it will be quite a bit larger but DAMN that would be a perfect engine for an 80 series. The little 2.8 is perfect if you really dont do much hauling or heavy overlanding in your 60. Even if you do, it seems like it would do just fine, the 4.5 would give it that much more..

Both @Kleatus and I drove the torfab 62 last week. This was at the Seattle crusier heads end of summer BBQ. The greatest thing was that we had 5 cruisers with all different power trains 2F, 3FE, 5.3 Vortec, R2.8 and 4bt
My thoughts:
2.8 was smooth and quiet. Idleing and under power it isn't clattery and less vibrations than my 2F drivetrain.
It doesn't have the stomp on the pedal and go accel that the 5.3 has. But smoothly accel's as it builds boost. With the boost in the sweet spot it powers forward nicely without crazy vibrations and loud clattering (it does have a pleasant turbo whistle)
I did notice that 1st gear with the h55 was a very short gear to use. As well, it wasn't a very long test or drive without really pushing the gears into higher RPM's where the 2.8 is supposed to shine. I would have liked to get it up a grade or onto a freeway to see the overtaking power.
The 4bt was noticeably louder both in and out of the rig, more vibrations and much more industrial set-up. With a pure trail rig this could be a great set-up. The 2.8 felt like a refined GQ magazine model compared to whoever stars in Duck Dynasty. While I haven't driven a BMW diesel SUV I imagine that motor portion would feel very similar in regards to sound and performance.
Overall the 2.8 felt modern and appropriate for the 60 series. It would perform better in a 40 for sure. Weight wise the chevy Colorado has a similar GVW to a 60 series. While I'm not sure that an auto trans is what I would want it did feel like the 2.8 built boost and shifting the h55 dropped it down out of that sweet spot, comments from others around that thought an Auto tranny may keep the 2.8 in the sweet spot longer compared to a manual trans.
It will be interesting to see if the "next motor size" for the Repower program (R3.X?) would be even better, providing more low end torque before the boost comes into it. I'm wondering price wise if the next size would be the better choice given the cost of the motor and overall cost of the swap.
I'll be waiting until my 2F dies, and or the next motor size comes out. Overall it was my favorite out of the line up of drivetrains I drove that evening.
I loved the feel of how smooth it was and felt like an upscale driving experience compared to the 2F. It didn't have the g-force inducing accel that the 5.3 had which I didn't find to be disappointing as it made the 2.8 feel like a better fit for the 60.

Was hoping for $6k-$7k but worried it might be $12k. I think they'll sell a good number which will hopefully get prices down in the future. They're likely pricing a little richer until the business case is proven.
$9k for the full kit isn't a steal but not a bad deal either.

So I was scooped by @NearJetties But here's the pricing info on the engine
Cummins has just released pricing for the new R2.8 at $8999. They will be available for sale on cumminsrepower.com by the end of September. Torfab will be offering our R2.8 kit in two forms, all the metal parts needed (mounts, fan shroud, ECU brackets, oil filter bracket, fuel filter bracket, etc) for an FJ60/62. We are also offering a more complete option with all the hoses, intercooler, piping, intake, etc. Stay tuned for pricing for our two kits.

After seeing the rig in person last week I can say it is one clean swap Tor is coming out with.
power is relative for a rig like an 80..... its a cummins power should be easy to get out of it... look at some of the 2.8 Dmax's that have been modded to get an idea.

SO what is the total cost for the swap including install?
looks like if the engine is 9k, and labor to swap (if you're paying torfab) @ 7k - at least $16,000 and for sure there will be other incidentals... tranny swap, etc...
admittedly - i'm no authority on the subject - just taking what I heard from Tor when i sent an email.
