Man i was hoping your build was Done... but not that kind of done..

I hope you find him...

Do you still have enough parts to have a complete truck or close to it? Honestly I bet if you brought it home you could get it done with some local help. Thats pretty rough though to take the windshield. I'm sure someone will find him if he screwed that many people. Its probably not going to be pretty when they do.

Hopefully when somebody finds him, nobody ever finds him again.

This is an unfortunate turn of events, scoundrels... I bet Mud' will help you find what your missing, or cause some leads to turn up if you ask!

For an update,

After filing a report with the NSL police department, and talking back and forth, it seems as if they are going to transfer the case to a differnt department. So it sounds like they want to prusue this case, and not just take take some notes and send me a report. So thats a good thing.

As far as whats left, not much, just a body and a cut up frame where they started to do the tubing work. Ill try and take some phone pictures and upload them.
It would be easyer and cheaper for me to find another Land Cruiser and start over again, and use what I have left for spare parts. At least it would run.

On another note, They are selling off the Portal-Tek name and rights to the highest bidder, so it seems as if someone who had the moneys to invest could come out ahead as the idea for the super 14 and the portals would seem to sell as fast as you could make them.
As a guess, and a low ball at that, id say you would be looking at a min. of $50K to buy and start up your own company, just change the name and the managment.

Id love to invest, but atlas, my money was swindled.

Hopefully someone will buy it and produce the product that should have been.

And hopefully Rob is found and the people can be compensated for thier losses

I say we band together for Project FJ80 and start a "Where is Rob Hardy?" thread dedicated to the finding of that @$$clown. I am willing to donate a few bucks to catch this crook. If he is in the Idaho, let me know, I will gladly knock on his door and ask for your money and parts. Sorry to read about your misfortune. I hope he is located and dealt with accordingly.

Hello everyone,
Well its been over 4 1/2 years since I started with the Cummins and portal-tek build.
Still have whats left of her out in the back yard, and still looking for Rob. any one have an address or ss#?

Well, as luck have it for me, I have found an affordable 1997 white, locked hi mileage 80 to start over with my project. as she sits, It now has over 320,000miles all stock, and seems to be running just fine.

So, I will be starting the build once again, this time doing thigs a little differently.

I still have the Cummins engine, Transmission, 4 speed transfer case, most of my 3" body lift, and a few spare body parts.

Ill have to do it in smaller stages this time around, due to the ecomony, but seems like ill throw on the 3" body lift first, a 2-4" suspension lift, probably a OME 3" lift, some 37" coopers, and a set of craigslist 17" rims. If everything turns out, Ill have this compleated by sometime twords the end of next year.
for 2011, the Cummins will go in, as will a spare dana80 axle for the rear, and prob. a custom fuel tank because of the center diff in the way. that sould take about 1 week to complete, prob another 2 weeks to work out the wiring, and then I think ill need to do something about the offending gear ratios form the d80 and the toy front.

Props for perserverence, very unfortunate how things ended. Hopefully when you least expect it you will get a "anomonous" tip and get some closure.

this brings the suck! I have been waiting for years to see this build completed!!

lol, Yeah, that made me laugh, almost makes me want to see whats next....

Well, slowley but surely im gathering what is needed to put this project back on track.
Im wondering if anyone might have thier template for an 80's Safari Snorkle, as I know longer have mine. or can I just call up and order only that?

Other than that, this thread is in need of some pictures,
I have whats left of old blue, and then ill get some of the new to me stock rig picts later.

Untill then,

Ron, where and when was that picture taken?

lol, believe it or not, that was taken outside on my phone about a week ago.
in my back yard, here in Phoenix, AZ.
Even though it does look like its out in the middle of the jungle.

Oof I had been hoping you'd get more of it back when Portal Tek went under. It's a common occurrence in the muscle car and street rod world for shops to start up, take up a ton of work, then disappear with the money and cars but I hadn't heard of it happening with the 4x4 guys yet.

I've gotta give you credit for moving on as best as you can and finding another 80 to start on, a lot of people would have given up completely. Looks like that tube work hasn't been fully welded yet so you could at least reuse that somewhat easily?

I'd look at this as a fresh start! Since you have the Shell and nothing else, I wouldn't worry about finding cruiser parts and just build a monster of a diesel 80 on Dana 60s with an atlas Xcase, etc. Get it driving and flexing first then deal with things like the interior, body panels, etc. my $.02 Best of Luck look forward to watching the rebirth!

Good for you for keeping on with this project! I cant imagine how frustrating it must be with the setbacks you've faced.
This thread could use a more optimistic tone to it. Hopefully you can post some pics of any progress you get and some details of plans or changes you will be facing.

I wish I had a set of portals to bolt on myself, that will be one sweet rig whenever its done!
