Cullowhee........the plan & Followup comments and stories
The Cullowhee Fall color tour is a few short weeks away this means its time to start laying out the plans for the trip!!! The general game plan for now is to have the usual two seperate meeting times to try to accomidate all those coming. Also for those of you that have made this trip before we will be taking a new route to cover some new ground and keep things interesting while still visiting and camping on the coveted "Balds". This looks to be the best Cullowhee trip yet since we should be catching the mountains at the peak of the leaf season!
What to Expect:
We will be riding roughly 30 miles on off-road trials that are located fairly deep in remote parts of Nantahala National Forest. Once on the trails we will be on them for the duration of the trip, and at some points we will be hours away from civilizaton, so with that said bring what ever you need to get through several days in the wilderness there will be no amenities anywhere close by. The trails we will be riding for the most part are easy to moderate at best and should be easy traversed by even stock Land Cruisers, that said I make no gaurantees to the current status of the trails as they are ever changing, but be assured will have many capable recovery rigs to get you through any sticky situtation
Meeting Place and Times:
We will be Meeting at the BP gas station located roughly 3 miles south of Cullowhee NC on highway 107..... the gas station is appropriately named "Moon Shine MiniMart" and can't be missed, also there is a local park located directly adjacent to the BP that can used as a meeting place. We will have two groups meeting up at this location one will be meeting there at 10am Friday morning and the other will be meeting around 4pm on Friday afternoon (this time is subject to change). Please let me know if neither of these times will work for you.
Food:
Everyone is responsible for their own food throughout the trip, I will try to bring some of my world famous "rotel dip" to help keep us warm at night
Gas:
It would be a good idea if everyone brought their own spare 5 gal gas tank for the trip......... this ride will be longer than the past ones and trust me it is a long walk to the gas station from the trails, ask me how I know
Well I think that covers the basics, please follow up with any questions you may have, and I hope we have a smooth and successful expedition
